Buildable vehicles and objects

Postby k0mbine » Sat May 05, 2012 7:01 pm

Let's get right to it.
I was thinking that if you could place blocks in such a way that it spawns a vehicle (think building an iron golem in Minecraft.)
Say, you build a jeep shaped structure, a jeep pops up.
Different shapes spawn different things, and you will have to memorize how to build anything if you want to build it, just like you have to memorize the shape of a Nether portal.
This can provide a whole new role players can take while in the battlefield. Some men are fighting while the others are building vehicles.

I was thinking you could also build useful objects like timebombs or something, but I'm not quite sure how that would work.

wouldnt you have to mine for blocks though? otherwise there is not much of a difference between this and the vehical spawning there. Just seems like extra code to me. And griefers would have alot of fun keeping their team out of the air.

You could always go for a tent.
This provides us something else to do other than killing, I mean think about it, if you're not good at shooting, you can build.
I dont know what you mean by that last statement.

Vehicles are on the DNSL. Buildable special objects would be pretty clumsy to integrate with the game the way it is currently.

Mat already made a helicopter fly in the OpenGL client (i'm serious), so vehicles are probably going to get added, maybe in 1.0. :)

I`d say yes, but you would have to unlock a certain block with a certain amount of kills or something like that

WAT? WHERE????

Anyway, @topic: I dont like buildable vehicles. Deuces simply wouldn't know how to do it unless they see some older players do it. I prefer the Spawning System, it is much simpler and easier to understand and implement.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)
