Chat blocking for the younger set

Got a great new idea for the game?

Chat blocking for the younger set

Postby chromesitar » Tue Mar 06, 2012 4:46 am

Forgive me if this thread exists, but "chat" isn't searchable, and it wasn't in the first five pages I looked at.
And if there's a way to do this already, then let me know, please.

I let my 10 year old play AoS; it's a fun game and he doesn't need to be playing COD. When I first started playing there wasn't much profanity in the chat, but recently there has been. I don't care if it's there, but I'd rather he doesn't see it.

I know other games try to censor chat, but everybody knows how to get past it, and it just makes the censor look stupid. So I'm suggesting an option in the text config that disables chat both ways. Obviously the server messages would need to get through. But this way I could do my parenting, and you guys could still say whatever you want.

I think something like this came up a while ago, but people did not really support it or something. I wouldn't really mind if there was a chat disable thing, I guess it would be fine. I wouldn't really worry about the swear words thing though, but I guess I see what you mean

cool username, by the way, a chrome sitar must be pretty cool stuff

Well I support your idea, and until it is implemented know that you can disable chat by going in to your C:\Ace of spades folder and then renaming the fonts folder (or just the ones used in chat though not sure which fonts they are). Hope that hackish solution works for now ;)

Well it just removes the fonts in Ace of Spades so that when people talk nothing shows up...

Well, there are profanity filter script[s] for pyspades. Though, I think sham's is the only server that features such a script.

I approve of this idea.Sometimes there are just too much chat going on and it keeps me distracted. But I rather have something like a /chat command, that disables the chat and lets you type again if you wish to say something by simply typing /chat.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)

People get around it all the time, which really does nothing for overprotecting children (and besides, thats mostly a joke thing anyways and doesnt cover a large portion of swears)

I thought of the same idea not long ago, just something because my little brother likes to play but I don't like it when he sees swearing. The pyspades 'deaf' command would be useful, too bad it doesn't work.

That'll work just fine, thanks.
I suppose an even more important consideration would be preventing children from giving away phone numbers, addresses, etc.
