Hey guys,

Well I just noticed something, when StackOverflow did an !aos.stats on IRC, showing 1156 players distributed on 139 servers.

Now, 1156 divided by 139 is 8.3, So an average of 8.3 players per server, or just 8 for simplicity. This is out of a maximum of 32 player slots.

My suggestion is such: That servers on the play page are listed in descending order, according to the number of people online per server.

Also:

Why not add in a small arrow button to the play page, which enables you upon clicking it, to rearrange your view of the servers.

To show order of servers from lowest to highest ping, highest to lowest player count, Grouped by location in distance from you. Alphabetical order, ETC.

This would be great ! Although the timing to implement this would be better when the menu/client will be implemented.

There is a slight problem with this idea. Slot sizes vary from server to server. Some servers host 32 players while others may only host 4. If you are sorting by % capacity, you would have servers with 4 player limits at the top.

I've suggested three neutral ways to sort servers. (one being a little less neutral).

A) Random sort. Doesn't get more neutral than that.

B) Sort servers based on a users country. It's worth noting that it's not possible to sort by ping (visitor to game server). The next best thing would be to list any servers in the same country as the visitor at the top of the list. This would in turn, likely result in lower latency. I've given Ben the proper database/code for GeoIP abilities (which is now used to show countries). It would just be a matter of fetching a visitors geographical location based on their IP address and going from there.

C) Sorting by uptime. The master server could keep track of what time a server initially connects and sort the list based on that. This would show server stability and in turn, a better experience for the user.
