Block density and resource cost.

Got a great new idea for the game?

Block density and resource cost.

Postby Rainbows871 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 7:14 pm

So I didn't find this in the DO NOT suggest sticky and searching found only one thread that went into little detail.

At the moment the SMG can go through all bunkers without 5 block thick walls fairly easily. This is easy to repair but there should be a way to not rebuild an entire wall because of a clip from a SMG got sprayed around there. So have stronger blocks.

Using the Q and E buttons a player can change the density of the blocks he/she places. A higher density block will cost more "points".
Your current dirt block, that can be easily damaged by bullets and destroyed by a right click spade, would cost one point.
The next layer (hardened/compacted dirt?) would be slightly more durable taking more shots or left mouse button spade attacks but still being destroyed by a RMB spade.
Sandbags would be more resistant to shots than compacted dirt but have the same spade vulnerability as normal dirt.
This would go up with the typical things such as concrete, metal and others. Some would have trade offs like sandbags having better shot protection but no spade protection while others just might be plain stronger at everything.

As making the blocks costs more breaking them would also give more giving players a reason to dig in this certain spot or as a easy way to store resources.

Each block would have different colour limits (as I don't believe textures can be implemented on voxels) so dirt could have green to brown, concrete all shades of grey, sandbags brown and yellow colours (dirtbags?) and camouflage blocks (weak to everything) could have all the colours.

It would also take some time holding down the block for it to appear completely so you can't just make a concrete bunker in the middle of a firefight magically and have to secure the location first.

Feel free to build upon this.

Oh, and you'll have to change into this pony costume.

I like the idea,I find building in AOS kinda useless.Whit each update this game get's it's getting more boring. The developer is taken the game into the wrong lane. It's turning into a Run and Gun game. Whats the point of building anyway in today's gameplay. With 0.75 around the corner it aint going to be better.

So I support this idea. Building options like that would fit AOS great. whit Mortars,HMG emplacements,it could give aos some strategic gameplay back. There are some nice things coming whit the next update, but most of it is disapointing.

Sorry for shitty English.

1. (hardened/compacted dirt?) XD hahahhaha nice
2. We gonna get Click n' Drag for awesome fortifications and bunkers so that's why Ben ( i don't approve this now) set block brake at 2hits Left-MB spade and 2hits rifle -_-
3. For me The smg should stay a bunker rape tool cause the rifle is a anty infantry weapon

no no no no this feels like a tower defense game .
this will completely ruin aos by people making super huge wall of adamantium and no one would be able to destroy it.
it'd take 5 minutes to destroy one block and they'd just replace it.
thus ruining AoS

Ouch that was hard...

Dont knew the community is even raging and pissing about a sidearm or a new weapon. So about new block types will hardly be added cause most of community likes the simple " Block " me to . For me 1. place is new weapons not block's...

I like it otherwise, but this would be a cancer to modding and the creative autism.

I think this would be hilarious, and useful. Use 50 blocks to make a block that takes 150 hits to destroy? AWESOME.

The area around the tent will be crazy fortified, this would be great!

Sure it looks Spade rape friendly cause we dont got anything against the griefers but anyway staying in movement is 100x better then being in a static bunker (in aos)

You're not getting what I meant. Enemy gets up to 8 block thick wall bunker and can tunnel inside it to continually sodomize the bunker's occupants with spade/grenade/shotgun/smg/rifle.

It's not fun to try to clear a thick wall of tunnels and enemy squads

What you think that the enemys will "live" in our bunkers that is pretty unrealistically and really not something that will hapen if you knew to shoot , if not then they will do anything to your base/bunkers.

Griefer bricks up the spawn.
Team is fucked.

Also, they don't allow you to say the name of the group in control of Germany in WW2 but allow you to drop the F-Bomb on these forums?
