i saw TigerShield had said something about light sources,so i thought what if we had lanterns we could carry around?and then i thought or maybe a mining helmet!just a green/blue helmet that you press a button to turn on,lets say k,and it will illuminate a 10 square block area around you(or 5 in front,five in the rear and 5 to each side,unless you are in a tunnel then just front and back if its 1 block wide) and its just a standard issue item you get it with you spade and stuff,and maybe it could have limited time and needs to recharge,like in halo combat evolved the flashlight needed several seconds to recharge before use again.

Holy shit.

I actually love this idea, replace the shitty hats we have now with those lantern hat things. Theyre practical AND amazing looking.

I vote yes, and add it so the night time's dark effects are more intense, so it isn't just a change in fog color. and it would be cool to have some hiding without one on, but you can turn it on/off, so it adds some more stealth or something, and it's less running around mindlessly on some maps.

I like it,but I think we might need some improvement on the lightning system we have right now.If you are in a tunnel 1 block below surface,it wont make difference between surface and the light on tunnel,it looks like the blocks are made of paper.

Also,needs battery,to keep it balanced,like the torch in Skyrim.Once it runs out of "fuel",only by going to the CP or death will refill it.

Well it's okay. But the one thing - dynamic light coding on voxpel makes my penis really hard. And coding is as har as my penis i think. But if it's not then fine.

i think this idea would work well if there were extremely dark maps. im basically saying lanterns and helmets could add a horror element to the game.

is it good to have a horror element in a game?

Previously we had a thread about flashlights / flashlight gun attachments. The idea is very compelling and once we have the OpenGL version and lighting is fixed it will become even more interesting.

It will give,tunnels a more scary feel to it. And then I can create decent tunnels.
