Ability to hide all chat

Hello.

I would dance a happy dance of joy if I could type /earplugs or /stfu or something, and this would make all player chat invisible (to me, and only me). Airstrike warnings and such could still appear. No-one is being muted, I'm just opting out for a while.

I'm aware that I might be in a minority here. Obviously, chat can be very important, and even entertaining if you're on a good server, and the admins are cool guys, and Poptart is spouting surreal stand-up comedy, and people know you, and all is swell, but then along comes CODkevin1999 and now I want to ram forks through my eye sockets. I'm an easily distracted dude, and I just want to zone out and shoot little green men in peace. /silence.

I know nothing of game development, but this seems like a feature that would be simple to add, and it wouldn't affect anyone who didn't want to make use of it. On some servers/maps, being a team player is the whole point, and that's fun. On others (minit US assault, sandcrawler, the old goonhavens; my favourites) I can't see how anyone could have a problem with this.

Am I alone? Has this been suggested before? I did a bit of searching and found some discussion about disabling the HUD, but I'm talking about a new command, only affecting chat.

You could change the "fonts" folder to complete chibberish if you wouldn't want to understand chat. :P

/deaf should work, but I'm not sure if it filters what text it blocks.

Aw, you had me excited there.

Nope. I'd never heard of that command, but I tried it just now on a couple of different servers and it didn't work, even though the message "you are now deaf" is displayed. Chat appeared as normal. Toggled on and off a few times, waited a while, still didn't work. Thanks for replying though.
