Shotgun fix

Postby Tek2 » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:44 am

In 0.75 shotgun is underpowered and extremely unreliable at all ranges except point blank.
Even in 0.70 shotgun was random at med-long ranges, especially when the enemy had cover making hitting an enemy a game of russian roulette no matter how good your aim was, allowing 1 shot kills at long ranges with luck, but sometimes you wouldn't get any damage done.

I suggest making the shotgun shoot a hitscan beam that is always the same instead of random pellets. (you could throw in some pellets for visual effect)

The damage your shot does would depend on how far the enemy is and how well you aimed. If you aimed to the exact center of your opponents head you would do more damage than slightly missing the enemies foot (you would still do a little damage because of the spread of the shotgun, but not a lethal amount.)

Not only this mechanic reward you from aiming well, it would also increase the skill ceiling you could achieve with the shotgun.
It would also lessen the times when you are like "1 shot from 50 blocks away with shotty! Poop!"

The beam would be in a shape of a cone

i ahve to correct you on hte point blank thing, i once had a dudes head fillin up 90% of my screen and still the bullets consistantly missed =\ i dont even...

but, hit scans... no. maybe they should jsut make it so that the pellets dont necisarily group up in one direction and spread kind of everywhere but still in a cone shape instead of a "lets all go this direction in stead" shape.

What do you mean no hitscans? All the current guns are hitscan already.

Shotgun has been massively buffed in .76, at this point the best course of action is to nerf the other weapons (primarily semi) if we want to buff shotty.

This mostly isn't a buff thread. It's just a suggestion to change how shotgun works at longer ranges.

It's simple to fix imo.

Nerf the semi into something similar to a WWI/II bolt action [This means MASSIVELY increased down time between shots] like the Mosin Nagant and slash it's torso/limb damage into somewhere around the neighborhood of 35/5 if it's keeping pinpoint accuracy. You shouldn't be trying to engage more than two - maybe three - people at a time anyways.

Jack up the SMG recoil and spread by a fair margin and reduce it to 45/30/12 damage for head/torso/limb.
