Security Breach! If you already HAVE an account on QuakeNet, skip to #6, the last step. If you don't, and do not know how to make one or anything about it... Then read this whole thing.Everyone should "Auth" themselves on QuakeNet (the server our IRC channel is hosted on) and have it officially posted on the forums on this topic.
I'll have to make a thread about it or something...
While in IRC you can do a "whois" check.
/whois <name>
And a bunch of information will pop up about them, including their account name. I'll have our IRC bot, Q, make you have automatic "Voice" (it's a little + sign next to your name), if you auth yourself on QuakeNet, everytime you login to the channel.
I'm going to walk you through how to set up an account on QuakeNet...
1. Change your nick to what you want your account name to be by doing this command:- Code: Select all
/nick <new nickname>
- Code: Select all
Example:
/nick TSBOwns
* Kibblez is now TSBOwns
2. Create an Auth:- Code: Select all
/msg q hello <email> <email>
- Code: Select all
Example:
/msg q hello [email protected] [email protected]
3. Check your emails, you'll get a password. You then must login (auth yourself) like this:- Code: Select all
/auth TSBOwns <password QuakeNet gave you>
4. Change your password with this command:- Code: Select all
/msg q newpass <oldpass> <newpass> <newpass>
- Code: Select all
Example:
/msg q newpass ASDF6173 ILoveTSB ILoveTSB
I changed my password from what they gave me, which was ASDF6173, to ILoveTSB.
KEEP IN MIND: Your password is CASE-SENSITIVE, as are all passwords. So AsDF is not the same as ASDF.
5. When you want to login anytime after that:- Code: Select all
/auth <user> <pass>
- Code: Select all
Example:
/auth TSBOwns ILoveTSB
6. Final Step: Security. To ensure that we don't have any incidents of other people impersonating our members, I'm asking that everyone PLEASE post their Auth username on this topic, and nothing more. Any suggestions can be made in the Suggestions Box thread, this is strictly for IRC Usernames and TeamSpeak inquiries. Nothing more.
We had an incident where a member was being impersonated already. By doing this, I can regulate who gets a fancy + Sign next to their name as soon as they enter the channel and auth themselves. This is proof that it's you, and if you don't have that set up yet.. Then when someone performs a "/whois" on you, they can verify your identity with your username being here.
Thank you, have a great day ^_^
