I think it would be an interesting idea, if it were implemented a LOT differently. You mention that it would be you and a gun, lost in a map.
Lost in a map is right, the maps can be huge, and even with the map in the upper-left corner, I sometimes have difficulty orienting myself towards the front lines, unless I switch to the bigger map. I would imagine a map full of players with no reticles or maps wandering around aimlessly (pun intended), hoping that they can stumble close enough to the enemy that they can shoot (before getting shot first).
Additionally, how would people know where the intel is? An enterprising foe could easily camouflage the intel in what may appear to an interloper as merely a small hill. Without the minimap to highlight the location of the intel, capping would be impossible.
Why are they called urinal cakes if you're not supposed to eat them?
