So if that will look silly, why are you suggesting it?
well, imagine if a map maker makes a map and there is, lets say, a tree that disquises a metal bunker. it originally wont make much sense if you steped into the tree and the leave look grey, but if the map maker or someone that thought the map deserves a texture to go along side it designed a texture for that color block to look like metal, it would make much more sense and possibly be awesome. So yes this is for map makers and graphic designers more than anybody else (and i guess people who want this game to be more beautifull).
So what i think this would over all accomplish in the community? well it would possibly make a whole new sub section to the mapping part called texturing or something and people could make textures for certain maps. Of course there could be multiple texture packs per map. Plus mapping would now be advertised to the graphic designing crowd, possibly brining a higher quantity and variety of maps.
So, lets not discriminate against lagfull cumputers. the game should have the ability to load different resolution textures, varying from 8x8 all they way to some thing higher like 64x64... maybe.
