Binoculars

Got a great new idea for the game?

Binoculars

Postby MrMeow » Fri Jun 29, 2012 10:47 pm

I've found situations where this would be handy, It would remove a fair amount of fog and let you see a decent amount ahead.

I found a thread about it but it didn't have a lot of details.

Good: It would let us spot defensive structures and find Spawn Campers a little less difficult to find.

Bad: You cant shoot with it or move.

Discuss?

i like the idea what your saying but for it to work the binoculars would have to move the aim of the player randomly when they leave the view so they don't home the aim of the binos. then switch to there gun then fire to pick out a camper.
i would like to be able to spot though.

This has been something talked about for awhile now.

So, personally, I think it should work like this:

Binoculars:

-Can be adjusted to see 15 blocks past fog
- Three seconds to both take out and put away
- Zoom with right mouse key
- Unzoom with left mouse key
- Takes you out of binoculars when shot
- You cant run with binoculars on and zoomed with
- Default walking speed for wearing and moving with them is same as crouch

it would be great, I would really like this. maybe like what zeke said, but just use the same button zoom out, there is really no need to over complicate things. if there is an increased zoom you can adjust, then maybe it could be the left mouse button, I think that would make more sense and be less confusing.

and yeah, replacing the grenades is a good idea, to not over complicate stuff with like 7 different items

I think Ben already had an idea of this cuz I remember him saying in the IRC that he was going to leave out the "B" key for binocular use in the future. I really like the ideas Zeke pointed out but I personally would like if you could use the middle mouse key to scroll through the zooms as appose to using left and right mouse clicks.

Yeah, that sounds like a better idea, using the scroll key in the middle. That would allow the left click to exit/enter the binoculars. Maybe you could use right click to switch to your weapon?

why not just use the numbers to switch to your weapon? stop trying to reinvent everything, all the binoculars need to be is a gun that doesn't shoot, instead it zooms in a little bit

That's actually a great way of saying it, I think that it shouldn't replace nades and just be like another gun or tool like Priok said.

Yes, but the idea would allow to simultaneously switch to your gun, allowing you to act fast when in trouble. The hotkeys are nice, but you have to admit, sometimes it takes time that shouldn't of been taken.

it takes like half a second to press 2, or whatever button selects the weapon, just get used to it if you really need to stop and look at your keyboard to switch weapons. I really do not see the point of a faster swap for something that's intended to be used in long range, if you're caught looking down binoculars then the guy who catches you deserves the kill, and the swap is already so fast that it doesn't matter.

and another problem with the whole middle mouse/scroll wheel thing is that not everybody has one

Not to mention spotting someone with binoculars does NOT mean the other person can spot you with just a rifle. They might need binoculars as well.
