Black Edges on Blocks (Cel Shading)

Got a great new idea for the game?

Black Edges on Blocks (Cel Shading)

Seeing that Mat^2 is making an OpenCL client with transparency, I think it would be a great idea to add in dark edges for the game. This is a general idea: (note, this was a bad copy done in haste, its just there so you get a idea)

If you guys are interested in this idea, Ill go bake up a few copies in blender with much better rendering.

The refined Edges would give the game a better and more unique feel, allowing you to define depth and edges better, the game would look sharper, crisper, etc.
Some other examples from other games:
(Borderlands:)

Cel Shading is basically a distinct, black (or whatever color) line that runs across the edges of a mesh/voxel when it isn't obstructed.

TL;DR : Add cel shading into the game, it looks nice.

Cel shading isnt "add black lines to everything", black lines can be present like in Borderlands and Okami, but thats due to the stylized theme of the games rather than the cel shading.

It would be cool, cel-shading is pretty nice. I don't think the black lines are really needed, but they might be cool to show the shapes a little bit more

I say no. I like how the game blends.

It also can be a lot to render.

I like how everything blends together in the distance, so I'd have to disagree? I mean it does look cool in games like Borderlands tho.

I guess so, the only thing I don't like about AoS is that the colors blend, sometimes too well. Sometimes it is hard to determine a horizon, bearing, or structure. Cell shading and edges really help to bring that out.
