Player Spotting

Got a great new idea for the game?

Player Spotting

Postby killerkarate » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:25 am

During a match in shams little pony today, Hompy had recently added a new script which allows you to spot players and let your teammates know where the enemy players are. I got to thinking about this and I believe this should be added to the vanilla game with minor tweaks.
First of all to spot an enemy player you double tap v. This makes that player show up only on your team's mini map to see. He could either show up as a red dot or a red version of friendly player icons on the mini map right now.
In example :

The enemy spotted disappears after 5 seconds, then he needs to be spotted again to show up on the mini map again.
The person who is spotted will also be notified. If you are spotted your little med pack will turn orange and a red exclamation point will show up next to it. The contrasting colors will hopefully catch the spotted players eye so he can take action.
In example:

This addition would add more tactical game play to AoS as well as boost teamwork in public games. Many snipers will have to be sneaky in order to survive.
Please discuss this idea and how you think player spotting should work or if it should be implemented at all. I would also like to thank Kukelekuu for helping with ideas for this suggestion. If you ever see him in game please give him a cookie.

This could really be abused. Someone can just go tapping v all the time to insta-spot everyone. It should have a limit of 1 spotted enemy per player at a time, and if the enemy goes behind cover for more than 2 seconds, the spot disapears until he gets out from cover. And I don't think it should last only 5 seconds. It should last as long as you have the enemy in sight, and it disappears when the enemy goes behind cover.

Good idea, But only if your cursor is directly on them.

By double tap v, do you mean, while aiming at them?

I believe it leaves a mark wherever your cursor is on. You still have to aim at the enemy.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

The person who is spotted will also be notified.

with 5 seconds, the person being spotted can easily hide himself with blocks...
So, let's take a look at the spotter ... this is useless

It is a great concept, however my only complaint is that the people who are spotted know it, which makes spotting useless and is kind of physically impossible.

I think the total opposite.

A neat idea, but it would make more sense if the spotter had to get the spotted player within 5? degrees of their cursor, and could only report the location of something or someone every 10 or 15 seconds (and even then, reported players would stay on the radar for a few seconds, MAYBE 10 seconds, regardless of position).
