More developement on gen maps

Got a great new idea for the game?

More developement on gen maps

Postby DrPain » Thu May 24, 2012 4:05 am

What if you could generate different types of maps
Kinda like biomes in minecraft

It would also be very interesting if it could generate buildings and pavement, or even urban style battlefields.

Even the default genmaps are fun, and more variety would be delicious
And I have to say, they're a hell of a lot more fun than most of the community maps out there.
Needless to say, they also look REALLY good.

Agreed, Gen Maps should have more variety. Maybe add threes or pre-made ruins ramdonly to the map when it is loaded? I'm not sure if it would be easy/possible though, as I'm not really onto those kind of things.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)

Found the source code:

The genland code that was included in AoS was probably modified, btw.

Triplefox has a somewhat Minecraft-tree styled, mountains, rivers, hilly-terrain random gen map. He says he's working on a canyon generator as well!

Yah, I've seen it. The terrain and the random trees are impressive but the colors are sorta weird...

IMO trees should spawn on the Green lowlands, with taller but less frequent ones spawning in the blue highlands.

Also having the occasional road spawn would be nice too, I don't know how it would fit with the gen code though.

The gen map needs small clusters of trees. Roughly 2 - 3 small pine trees in the open and 1 - 2 willow trees neer rivers. There should also be at some point there should be some small roads and bunkers. The hidden camoflaged bunkers that are semi-ruined so players can repair them or keep them broken to lower suspicion.

It would also be nice if there were tundra or desert maps

Tundra or desert maps would actually be pretty easy to generate. "Just" change the color palette for the gen map from greens to whites or browns, a there ya go :)

Wouldn't they have to be flatter and dryer though?
