Instead of whole buildings dissapearing when griefed..

Got a great new idea for the game?

Instead of whole buildings dissapearing when griefed..

Postby sportsfan2 » Fri May 18, 2012 6:42 am

Hello all,

My suggestion is that when a building is griefed, the whole structure does not go lopsided then disappear, but rather all of the blocks simply collapse and form a mound of rubble.

In my opinion this is more realistic, vs having hundreds of blocks just disappearing.

I think this would be a great idea. The blocks could basically 'fall' some distance, but the structure almost remains. However, I'm not sure if it technically possible.

To me it's one of those 'would be awesome but can it actually be done?' ideas.

It is a good idea, but some of the blocks would have to disappear. Can you imagine mountains of rubble from some of the buildings some people build?

if the build got knocked down i could imagine it.

just rearrange the blocks to the shape of a pile. kill anyone inside.

like when a building collapses in real life.

sportsfan2 has a point, but i don't think its right for this game.

this thread seems like it would go great with this thread

Yapp, it would give a perfect WW I feeling. Especially on Normandie maps, where you would run pass destroyed buildings. It would be awesome in my opinion.

Yes it would, but it would increase lag. It would be good though because the battlefield would be ever changing.

Yeah this would be good and actually be logical.

This would be a great idea and the ruble pile size would depend on how many blocks fell. THis would be a great Iddea to combat greifers becuse their ppoint is to destroy and give no cover whn yet you still has cover.

Not necessarily, the game wouldn't have to process any additional blocks, and would only be erasing less then half of them. It's not like massive buildings are being taken out constantly anyways.

I imagine the rubble would flow similarly to water in minecraft, then stop. that way a wall could block the flow of rubble.

and it would be moderately interesting to watch.

Maybe if the "rubble flow" from the building is big enough, it will also destroy light structures (e.g 2 blocks high walls)?

Good point. Maybe this isn't what you meant, but what happens when blocks collapse above water?

Currently you can't build directly on water. Also you can't destroy the last block that isn't water. For this idea to be implemented there must be a solution to these problems. Probably you'd have to be able to destroy water blocks and build on top of water.

Otherwise I love the idea!

Maybe there is a first "layer" that is still water, but with the color of the blocks, if another layer falls in it, it becomes land.

Also, what about the Bridge on Bridgewars?
