Lighting

Got a great new idea for the game?

Lighting

Postby rulerofiron99 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:21 am

This is a fairly complex suggestion, in that it would greatly change certain aspects of the game, and require the addition of new abilities/items.

Lighting should be similar to that of Minecraft: surface blocks (and players standing on them) are fully lit, and all blocks project shadows directly below them, their intensity based on the lighting of surrounding blocks.

What would have to be added:
- Flashlights. While giving your vision of the area, flashlights would also have the disadvantage of making you more visible to your enemies.
- Torches/static lights. For more advanced defenses.

The addition of lighting would make tunnelling and tunnel navigation harder.
There would be more purpose to hiding in buildings/under trees.
A new type of structure would see some play: a large roofed room, which a defender can camp and have the surprise advantage against attackers.

This seems like something psyspade would do.

Actually I can recall playing on a server where the whole map was black and white and each team was almost the same color. Now that was fun. Haven't seen the server since though.
... I was gone for a month and came back to a game that hadn't changed a bit.

Dynamic lighting like this could be very interesting. It is very simple to understand for players, and it adds a lot to gameplay.

Currently the only real use to lighting is finding sniper holes, so this could be a very interesting change.

The idea could indeed be a bit complex but i would love too see fire, light and lightning in the game.

Might cause some lag, but seems pretty interesting, also might be good for strategy ! +1

Yeah, I guess.
Current lighting is just...Artificial and cosmetic (since it doesn't give you any dis/advantages).

It would make the game not only LOOK nicer, but would add a bigger tactical feel to it (proper nighttime strikes etc.)

Not to mention you could add a function to the effect of the longer your screen is dark the higher your gamma gets, simulating your eyes adjustment to different environments. That'll be fun for tunnelers.

It also will make tunnelers think twice before they blitzkrieg the enemy base in the sunlight after tunneling for 10 minutes, they would probably say something like "Oh my god, my eyes !!!" Because the sunlight would be VERY VERY VERY bright after all that tunneling. That would be fun ! ^_^

^How about the screen becomes all white and we not try to blind somone?

I will admit that would be funny the first time though.

Thats kind of what i meant, also maybe when hes tunneling and sees a way out it looks white and when he comes out theres a bright flash that turns hes screen white and the whiteness slowly dissapears that takes 4 seconds maybe 5.
