Horrible framerate on decent computer

My desktop: Windows 7 Ultimate x64, 2.2GHz Quad core Phenom 9500, 8GB ram, GeForce 9600 GSO graphics card (not that a graphics card matters), one monitor at 1680x1050

My internet: 15mbps up, 3mbps down, ~45ms ping to several of the servers, all thoroughly tested.

My problem: very low framerate, fraps says it was playing at 4 fps when I was running at max resolution in windowed mode. (Interestingly it goes up slightly when I use 800x600)

I know it's not an internet issue because I started a server on my computer and connected to it via localhost with the client and still had the same problem. Also, I opened a hole through my router firewall and a couple people from irc logged into my local server and it worked fine for them.

I tried running in both windowed mode and non-windowed mode and both ways had the same problem.

Note: I know how it's supposed to work because I tested on my lame work computer that has two 1080p monitors and it worked great.

Edit: Tried reinstalling my gpu's driver and vs08cpp redistributable. Tried running aos in Safe Mode with Networking. Still not working.

I usually run in windowed mode. At 800x600 resolution in windowed mode it runs at 6 fps according to fraps.

Strangely, when I started walking around the framerate goes crazy. It will jump to 30 fps for just a moment before falling down to 2 then back up to 15 etc etc. But after a second it always goes back down to 6 fps.

have you tried holding down tab?? it might sound stupid but for some reason it works for me.

Strange I didn't a notification of your reply. No, tab doesn't help. Also I have the same problem on the new 0.75.
