Haha I am a leader of a young clan, and this guide is pretty useful. Some of it was self understandable and some of it was new. Hope my clan won't be a failure :P

Don't be afraid to close recruitment, you are looking for quality over quantity.

Well USAB started to get a lot of bad applications so we just said nope, invite only now.

Yes, what works for USAB works for USAB, not every clan out there.

LDR closed recruitment for personal motives before the others and it has worked out for us, but we didn't do it because we were getting bad applications only, to fix that you just need to fix the way you recruit people and that's it. Closing recruitment involves several other manners which are not easy to take for leaders or for members so no, I wouldn't recommend it to others just because a clan didn't die after doing it.

Having open recruitment means meeting new people which could possibly become trusted friends. If you are worried about quality over quantity due to recruitment then you should fix your recruitment process entirely, it probably isn't good at all. Isn't this supposed to be advise to prevent failure? Closing recruitment is a big risk and could possibly lead to "FAIL" as the title says.

I chose to close recruitment because I felt like we weren't focusing enough on the current members and that has led to inactivity. I plan on re-opening it once we get things sorted out and morale is higher.
