Zoom changes depending on weapon.

Postby ChaosTLW » Fri May 11, 2012 8:51 pm

Okay so, I'm not sure if this was already suggested, I used search and found nothing like this, but I may have done it wrong =P

Anyway, the idea is: Depending on the weapon, the zoom when you aim down sights changes.
Shotgun is more of a short range weapon, so it should have no zoom or really little zoom.
SMG is more of an mediun range weapon, so it should have some more zoom, but not as much as Rifle. Something between Semi and Shotgun.
Semi Rifle should have the higher zoom. I guess the one we have on this version is just fine.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)

I want no zoom for all the three weapons. Looking down at the iron sights won't magnify the world around you.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

No idea why the guns even have zoom, none of them have scopes whatsoever, only ironsights. But oh well, AoS hasn't been directed towards realism so far, although I do like your idea.

Then what purpose will they serve? You might as well remove them at that point, because then all it will be is a 'please slow me down so I can die more easily' switch, since that change removes the only benefit to the sights over simply using the unscoped crosshair.

Maybe they should remove the target.png so that aiming down the sights would be more vital for survival. From what I observed, there isn't a change in accuracy between hipfiring and aiming down the sights. Maybe there should be an accuracy bonus for aiming down the iron sights.

Or just delete the entire target.png and replace it with an empty, transparent one XD

yeah that's pretty much the same thing, just don't want people to be able to easily get it back :P

Besides one time I played with Mikuli like this, and within a few minutes he was able to get headshots every time again... He says he just stares at the center of the screen XD

Yeah, or you put a tiny piece of colored tape or such in the center of your monitor where the crosshair would normally be. That particular strategy of increasing the importance of using a scope just doesn't work. It's easy to get around the entire purpose of it.

True, but then you're encouraging using the sight based on differing mechanics in the way the weapon works in and out and sight, rather than the lack of a crosshair.
The only purpose of removing the crosshair at that point is realism, and AoS isn't a MilSim like ARMA or Red Orchestra, so what is the point?

Your point about realism is true, but it would just be more fun without target.png >:D
Scoping in makes you move slower after all, so there would be a real tradeoff between hipfiring and scoping.
