Skydiving (Parachuting)

Got a great new idea for the game?

Skydiving (Parachuting)

Postby Yang » Sat Apr 28, 2012 10:08 am

Please Put Parachuting into AoS!
Skydiving would be a great addition to the game and would be used Similar to the airstrikes. when you obtain a certain amount of kills or obtain a certain object you would type /skydiving then the co-ordinates (e.g. /skydiving G4) and you would be deployed there by parachuting down! This would be great for tactical strategies and would make a great addition to the game. Thanks for reading. :D

I'm not sure about having paracuting as a killstreak, but this is definitely awesome.

Perhaps this could be a death streak?

The discussion of kill/death streaks is huge and ongoing, but if it was decided to implement them, then paracuting would be a great addition.

Actually, you could parachute in the earlier versions by smashing Spacebar and Ctrl at the same time very fast, but it doesn't work anymore.

I remember doing it with my friends, one of them even recorded that, I think.

Anyway, I think that this would be a great idea, and if Ben ever adds planes, we could have parachute units in the game. xD

Already suggested.
But, then people will try to parachute to other's base.

Probably some rules on how the Parachutes work:
1.) The player parachuting is very vulnerable while in air.
2.) You could not deploy/use parachute landing in an area with enemies.
3.) You need to use a command in order to activate it (/para B4 or something like that)
4.) You can't land in a map area that is occupied by any enemies.
5.) Parachutes would replace an equipment slot.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

my idea with the parachute is that it would be used like it was similar to BF2, jump out of the heli and press space.

I always loved the idea of parachuting in games, but this may not be the thing for AoS. First, we don't really have the consistent terrain for it to work. Even on the classic, random maps. So, it would be relatively situational. Second, it does not seem relatively worth while in terms of effort to code in. But this is me on having a parachute from mountains.

As for jumping into the field, it is needless to say, it would be useless. Too easy for anyone to just get shot.

Problem with (2) is that someone with a parachute could sit in a 1x1x3 hole and just scan the map for possible enemy locations. That, or you could just end up making the parachute useless because the map is grid based, and if it only takes on enemy in one grid-area to disable a parachute drop, then you can't parachute anywhere (or anywhere good).
Are you a tunnel rat or a hunting hound?

Also, play the objective.

I don't think #4 is a problem. It's not like they will actually make it to the ground if there is enemies in the square :P

Perhaps have parachuting option available in the tent, and you can parachute to any location near to a friendly troop?
Walk up to tent "would you like to parachute? Y/N", show map, click square with friendlies in it, enjoy your fall!

I think this would be a very viable replacement for squad spawning, since you can quickly reinforce and get back to the action, however you need to be careful about where you parachute to, since while midair you will be very vulnerable. This means that spawning in to the enemies base is kind of viable, you could do it, but you would need to be crazy lucky or you will die WAY before you reach the ground!

Yes! :D
But what if instead of typing a command, you would spawn in a plane (These planes would be made by the map creator) and then you just leap out a parachute down :D
