Hello

The SMG and Rifle are perfectly balanced, but the shotguns appears far weaker. So I have an idea of how to make it more efficient, without giving it too much power : being able to shoot with the shotgun when sprinting.

That would allow "run and gun" tactics to give shotguns use the ability to move faster (using the sprint) while keeping the ability to defend themselves, while SMG and Rifle are defenseless with sprinting. So, shotgun users could take the advantage in close-combat, letting less reaction time to enemies.

+ More players will take shotgun instead of less than 10% currently. It will also force other weapons to be more careful in close-combat as a skilled shotgunner will use the advantage of speed to take them down, one by one. A single player will be able to deal with less situations alone, increasing teamplay with a mix of classes. This does not increase the shotgun's firepower, no risk to be back to the shotgun as it was months ago (one shot at 100m).

- Maybe it will not change anything for most players and only a few players will use this "shotgun charge", as an high infiltration skill is required to come close enough from enemies with high chances of success.

Sounds fun, yet unfair-ish. You could just barge in, take the intel, and run back shooting everyone in your way. :/. I guess that would make others use shotguns and balance it out. If you think about it this is a good idea!

Reminds me of Scout in TF2, cuz he runs fast and uses shotguns, lol.

Rifle has no match at long-range and SMG can kill without difficulty at almost any range. Shotgun is effective only at very close range, at more than 15-20m you can not defend yourself against an enemy who shoots you.

My idea is more about making short charges to leave no chance to an enemy you spotted, and to limit the shotgun's main withdraw : it's range.

But on an open battlefield, the shotgun will still have no chance vs other weapons. If you just charge all the time to take the intel, expect a rifle bullet or a SMG burst in the head in seconds, like you would with any other weapon.

@ lehma : well used, the SMG is a death machine, perfect for blocking an entire enemy squad and an excellent defensive weapon. OK the rifle has no match in flat and open maps (like Pinpoint), but once a few protections are available the SMG becomes very useful. SMG just needs more tactical skill and less marksman skill than the rifle. And Simo Häyhä also used an SMG, in extra of his rifle

SMG and rifle are fairly well balanced, how it is now. It's not perfect, but it never will be.

As for the shotgun, run 'n gun seems a great idea. Hilly maps have this nasty habit of screwing up running and such anyway, and it would give the Shotgun the necessary speed boost to be effective, and provide it a unique advantage. FUND IT!

Y'know, I think I'm okay with this.
It'd be balanced pretty nicely, giving shotgunners that close range power that they're made for while putting a heavier role on the rifle users that the sprinting shotgunner won't be able to easily pick off.

I skipped over that sentence.

To the idea itself, it's marvelous. It just needs to get it's nerf away a bit, and it's good to go.

Even though there will be running shotgun guys, they just don't fit into the open-are fights where Semis and SMGs emerge. While being stealthy and using close-quarters combat tactics, i'll give the shotgun a new aspect for it that some people would like to use as their default focus on usage. It'll bring the shotty back to the game, now it's more of a useless piece of a brick which vomits pellets in high speed.

I appreciate this suggestion. And I'm supporting it.
