Parties, Lobbies and more game types

Got a great new idea for the game?

Parties, Lobbies and more game types

Postby Nanners » Sun Jan 15, 2012 2:45 am

This is a idea that came to me.
Maybe friends and clans could like make a party and the person who started the party could choose what they play and server they go on because It would make friends and clans easier to play with eachother.

Instead of going into servers maybe they could put like a kind of lobby system in and people could choose what maps they want by a voting system of some.

More game types because only having cap the intel and team deathmatch gets a bit old.

Just a few ideas that I randomly came up with.

We would need to wait for the all-in-one-client for this.

I agree it would be useful though, often there is a server with just enough space but once half your party has joined someone else joins too and then the rest won't fit :/

What game types you would suggest?

We have:
Capture the flag
Territory control
Tug of war
Team deathmatch
Zombies
Classes
and others

Capture the flag could be too close to Capturing the intel, unless we do something like;

Intel possession - You don't score it anywhere, but the longer you hold it, the more points you get. There is a certain limit which either side must fight to get to first, whoever gets there first, wins.

Another one could be Team King of the Hill, with random locations indicated on the map, where both teams need to get to and spend a certain amount of time at. When the limit is reached, a different location on the map is picked, this happens a couple of times, until all limits were reached, and the game ends and you get shown who has won.

Another one could be capturing prisioners? In this game mode every team has lets say tear gas rather than grenade, and if a person gets hit by teargas they get stunned for 10-15 seconds, whilst the opposite teams player can type /capture [player id], then this indicates in the main screen - Blue Player X has been captured by Green player Y / Vice versa.
The game lasts on a timer, lets says 90 mins, in the end, the team which has most prisioners wins. To free your team mate, you must kill the capturing person, also the capturing person must stay within a certain distance with his/her prisioners, if he exceeds, they automatically are uncuffed/freed. Also in this game mode you could have commands like /enemyprisioners and /allyprisioners, this then shows you which of your allies are captured and by who, and shows you which of your allies have captured the enemy. Once an enemy is captured, you should be able to see their blip in red.

I hope some of this is possible. I remmeber these types of mixtures of game modes in games like Halo and stuff, really fun, better than mindless killing. Strategic.

You see here is the thing:

-Servers are hosted through one person in particular

-This is a crazy idea

Now this game isn't your everyday PC game you buy from Walmart. You don't put this into your Xbox and host a lobby like that. Minecraft couldn't even do that if they wanted to. Insanity I tell you! It would just be a mess. If you think about it, all beloved servers would be gone, in a way, to where there would be no enjoyment.

In the near future there is bound to be a menu and an account login. With that coming there is more than likely going to be ways to associate what you want with out lobbies and or parties. For now on I recommend making a group on skype and going from there.

Though lobbies may be difficult to make, such game modes aren't. What we do need to attract here is some thinking, so not just shooting the shit out of each other. We do have things like the intel but it's influence within gameplay is very little to the point where the majority of players begin mindlessly killing one another, which leads the minority who will try focus on the game mode to just follow suit.

I don't get it.

I can think of several games that use this system and it works awesomely...

Blizzard games all work like that for starters (WC3, SC, D1, D2), Toribash, Minecraft actually did work like that a few years back too.

I actually quite like that system but it doesn't work as well for games where you need a lot of people to have a good match.
Just saying its not as rare or useless as you may think.

Zeke you may have truth behind the fact that it is rare, however if it is possible, why not? For a game that is free, and has a lot of benefits, it could become rapidly, and insanely popular. Though I do not mind about lobbies, just that there needs to be other official game mode types.

Like with capturing the intel, I remember a while back, when you did capture it, you could see your enemy for an X amount of time on the radar, however this was removed. Why? I do not know. I think though people may argue it was 'lame' or too easy to kill enemies off, well then - This made intel even more valuable to save. Also I think there should be a way to return your intel to your base if it is taken; such as standing at it for one minute without dying, whilst doing this a bar appears on screen, which once is full, it is returned. because people nowadays, take it, run in the middle of the battle zone, to get it as far as they can to their base, die, another one does the same, and the cycle continues until it is captured. This is why I call it as 'mindless', as one side kills madly to stop the other from taking it, and the other side just runs about stupidly to score it, without the risk of losing progress.

I can guarantee aswell, adding game modes like the 'Prisioner capture' / Also known as Cops vs Robbers, will highly satisfy some players, because we're not always looking to shoot, but to make plans. Not to go into a full blown essay or anything, but seeing your plan succeed is enjoyable, which makes gameplay fun, if such possibilities are implemented.

If it were possible I would be in the middle. Though, even with what mat^2 has planned in store, I still don't think It would happen. Not to mention, this game will cost money. Especially if it becomes insanely popular.

By the way, there was a Cops and Robbers script by Dany0 back in the day. Sadly, it was nothing as you described it would be.
