A Very Special Personal Request for Ben

Got a great new idea for the game?

A Very Special Personal Request for Ben

For the next update, can there be a toggle key to disable your own autoclimb? (Just your own, not for anyone else on the server obv.) This isn't something the community wants, it's just something I personally think would be cool, to be able to toggle the autoclimb on and off while walking normally.

My birthday's coming up, so it'd be a really neat birthday present if you did this for me :)

It would be nice if autoclimb could be server-side toggleable. Does anybody know if pyspades can do this?

No, auto-climb toggle should be client-side. I started in .60, after auto-climb had been enabled, and let me tell you, looking at footage from when you had to manually jump over one block at a time, all I have to say is:

By making auto-climb something each individual player can toggle based on their own personal preferences would be the best. I also cannot see it causing huge server stress.

Why not make it a server option? If you don't like it don't play on those servers.

Also it was likely the video you were watching was of a new player. After a few days walking up hills without autoclimb got pretty easy.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the whole reason against autoclimb is that It makes the game too fast-pased (players just run across large maps without problems). Making it a client-side option wouldn't help that, because it wouldn't effect everyone on the server.[/quote]

^This^. Maybe autoclimb status could be displayed in the server browser, that way people will know whether or not autoclimb is enabled/disabled before they join.

Yes, but what happens when one of my favorites starts doing that? What if Minit US turns off Auto-Climb? Then what? See my point?

That's my point. I don't want auto-climb disabled for the sake of a few who do want it, and I don't want to find that my favorite servers suddenly turn it on for one reason or another to appease them. Making it client-side means that people like me can still keep auto-climb and those who don't can have it disabled. It's a win-win situation.

To server toggling autoclimb idea: No. Hell no. AoS is a fast paced game. I'm sure many players out there would quit AoS entirely if their favourite server switched autoclimbing off. You could ruin a great, well known server in an instant by toggling off autoclimb.
To individuals toggling their autoclimb: Hmm... Nice idea. I don't see the point though, considering your thumb will cry for mercy once you start hopping over a hill.
Consider this: Suppose you have 10 people. 7 of them have ...cat allergy. You hand out each person a cat, cause it's a good idea. 7 of them say: but I have allergy! You say 'NO! It's a good idea that everyone gets a cat! So just deal with it.' And so, 7 out of 10 people have their lives ruined because they were forced to live with a cat.
In a similar way, by letting whole servers switch autoclimb on and off, you will ruin the experience for many players while satisfying few. Why few? Because as I said, AoS is a fast paced game. Moving, combat, they're all very dynamic. You can't have a decent combat if you're stuck on one block level, in a fort, on a hill, in a cave, on a tree, or whatever. No, it's not a bad thing that players just run around. That's the whole point: agility, skill. If you're not careful you're just gonna run into the enemy base in a few seconds. The speed is there for a good reason. It's bad enough that sprinting has no autoclimb.
But anyway, if the individual wants it off, it's his choice. Leave it up to the individual.
It's a nice idea though. I hope Ben hears about this!

For 99% of people, autoclimb is amazing. That's why I'm asking for the ability to toggle it for myself :)

The problem is that it isn't a win-win. You see, autoclimb would only do any shit if everyone gets it disabled. Why would you even think about disabling autoclimb if no one elses is doing that?
I myself am agaisnt the removal of autoclimb, but I also do not like autoclimb as it is now. It would be better if it was slown down.

I dont know if you was here before, but for a long time AoS has been a building-centered slow-paced tactical-gameplay game.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)

How do you think people felt when autoclimb was forced on to them? For every reason you have against disabling it, there is someone with the exact same reason for doing exactly that.

F uck all the idiots in the world, autoclimb should be fucking toggleable server-side or at the very least be slown down a lot. I've fought for this so much that I don't even care to do it anymore, and will just watch the world burn.
