Spy "class" (somewhat TF2-inspired)

Got a great new idea for the game?

Spy "class" (somewhat TF2-inspired)

Postby DarkDXZ » Sat Dec 31, 2011 11:50 am

Hello, everybody, DarkDXZ here.
I'm 270th member of these forums and I'm proud of this. (I hope they'll stay official)
But, to the point...

Right now, we only have purely offensive "classes" in Ace of Spades:

* rifleman (Rifle)
* machine gunner (SMG)
* shotgunner (?)

Yes, it's good, but I think that we may need something for more...Ambush-type attacks.
What I mean to introduce, is a Spy "class".

Unlike regular soldiers amongst the Deuce army, a Spy does NOT have any ranged weapons.

As a tradeoff, he is 35% faster than the others, which allows him to use his unique items better way.

A Spy can't use Spade or Blocks, which enforces him to rely on terrain furthermore.
Instead, a Spy has a knife - which he can use to backstab his opponents for an instant kill. Using it otherwise works the same as a regular Spade would do.

Once he backstabs someone, he can disguise himself as an enemy he just killed by right-clicking the body.
A disguised Spy wields the weapon of a backstabbed enemy, has the same color, name (when moused over by enemies), but he can't see the enemy positions. Also, talking on the team-chat will be his original team's chat.
The disguise goes off when Spy uses his attack, no matter if it hit anything or not, as well as when he is damaged (by any means)

A Spy also comes with an invisibility (watch?), which makes him invisible for a given period of time. (preferably something about half a minute). Spy's footsteps are much more silent than these of a regular soldiers', but only when not disguised.

Spy "class" summary
+ able to backstab enemies for an instant kill
+ can disguise himself as enemy
+35% faster walking speed
+silent footsteps
+invisibility watch (?)

-no ranged weapons
-no spade or blocks
-no grenades
-can't capture territories/intels when disguised/invisible

Yes, it is in fact VERY TF2-like, but hey...Do you have any other ideas?
At least, this thread will not be flooded as quickly as on the old forums...

I'm not sure if this would fit AoS. Sounds more of an assassin from classes script, which isn't really hosted anymore.

Half a minute seems pretty huge.

I didn't have any ideas about the invisibility time. 15 seconds?
Or maybe 10? I don't really know.

Would the spy have +35% movement speed when he is disguised as someone, as this could be a nice way to spot a spy in your territory.

I would propably make the spy more like the other classes we already have by adding something like throwing knives and nerfing the other specials.

This TF2 inspired Spy class doesn't really fit AoS though since it includes invisibility clock's. Yeah it's kinda too TF2-ish. What I have in mind about Spy class:
1. No invisibility clock.
2. Can disguise himself as an enemie team soldier. Name that is shown for enemies is randomly generated. (For team-mates he appears as undisguised, with his team-color)
3. If he shoots the weapon, he looses the disguise.
4. If he walks too close (<15 blocks ) to the enemies he looses the disguise (As enemie soldiers recognizes him as a spy)

That's my vision of spy class which is less TF2-ish.

Maybe, but it's too hardcore, imo...
Even with speed boost, he wouldn't be able to get close enough to enemies to backstab them, if his disguise would disappear that way.

You might want to talk to "Yourself". If I believe so, he helped JoJoe make a script similar.

Also realize the game is based off of the WW II scenario, so this is very unlikely going to happen.

I don't think classes fit well with AoS. I would like the ideas of nice weapons added, but the bonuses and special features ruin it.

Dear sir, as much as i want to tell you this in an intelligent and acceptable manner,
i am forced to express my opinion as follows...

ONONONONONNNNOOOO!!!!
OH NOEZ, WE DONT NEED SUCH THING,
OTHERWISE BAD THINGS HAPPEN, BALANCE IS PERFECT NOW!!!!!!1!1one1!!!!
DO YOU WANT AoS TO BECOME DOVAH-KNEE????

Back to my brains -
this kind of thing, in my opinion, at least, would imbalance the game greatly.
Same as, for example, a tank class, which would have 300% health.
Balance is almost perfect as it is, and NOONE is enforcing you to play offensively.
You can be stealthy if you want - spade is perfect for this purpouse.
I have even managed to kill 2 and a half people in a row with it!

Now, the medic "class" on other post is worth some discussing, though...
That would be all, my dear fellow deuces.

Also: shutting up because i have caused some annoyances lately.

Not so shure about this. I personally think the only classes this game needs are medic and a "bomb-man".

Medic's don't have any grenades, but instead have a medkit. Left-clickin on a friendly player will heal 20-HP per "hit", and right-clicking heals yourself.
The "bomb-man" doesn't have any grenades either, but instead has two bunches of dynamite-sticks taped together. Basically you would "attach" it to an enemy wall, run away before the fuse runs out and enjoy watching everyone near the wall get blown to pieces. Of course this class poses massive griefing potential, but i guess you just have to deal with griefing untill we get an anti-griefing system or votekicking get's improved.

There was a class mode a while ago for this game that had spies too. And oh boy did it make my but hurt. They'r just F-ingly annoying. Need to have a charge time between each use of spy devices (like 20 seconds) and have the buttery last for like 20 minutes too. Otherwise it will be a total ass rape.

I think the current 3 classes are fine.
Give the SMG a medkit and the shotty an ammo pack, rifle could have something else to encourage teamwork (dunno what), but other than that, it's not necessary to add more. (imho)
