Water and it's disadvantages.

Got a great new idea for the game?

Water and it's disadvantages.

As we know, IRL water (rivers, lakes, sea) during war is something you really don't want to stay in. It's used as really effective natural defence. Bridges are really strategically important objects.

Now in AoS water slows you down only a little, and in exchange gives you 360 indestructible half-cover, from one to three sides full indestructible cover, makes you less vulnerable to nades. From my experience - it's really good idea to stay and camp in water, and that's wrong. Also bridges are not worth the effort, except those 1x1 bridges far from frontline.

Currently available tool to force people out of water is water damage, but many players don't like it and call it unrealistic.

So my suggestion is: don't allow (or make really inacurrate) shooting from water (including water near the banks). IRL, you can't really snipe while swimming, especially with 30kg on your back.

Dear CadenLoki,

You must notice that you are standing in the water. You can stand in water and shoot.

Only if we assume that in AoS water deeper than 1,5m doesn't exist.
I'd rather assume that water is always deeper, and you always swim, for gameplay reason.

Assume all you want, facts are facts. You only walk.

Makes sense to me though?

Water IRL cant slow and sto nearly anything in just a few feet, a beliv ei saw a vid of a .50 rifle round getting only 7 feet through normal H20.

Eh, I don't think we should touch shooting while in water, just add some other disadvantages.
I'd suggest slower movement speed while in water and to allow shots to pass through the water "blocks," so being half submerged in it doesn't act as cover.

Crouching in water, no shooting. Standing however you should be able to shoot. Simple as that.

Maybe different depths? Like,1~2 blocks away from the shore, you can shoot, but away from that, the water is too deep and you need to swim.

I was kinda thinking your aim would sway while you're in the water. (like in MW3 while looking through scope)

You forgot about the noise. And that to cross a river in water you have to climb down the bank then up the other side, where as if you had a bridge you would cross MUCH faster.

Besides that, removing the cover from water is obviously a good idea. I think we can assume that it was a bug in the first place.

Move speed could do with being reduced further, but it is ok the way it is.

You must drown if you crouch!

Or at least not be able to shoot.

How about this:

Going in water reduces your movement speed to 1/4, you're unable to shoot, and it slowly decreases your stamina-bar. When the bar runs out, you start taking damage, and you go underwater&back to surface repeatetly until you drown. It also does a cool swimming animation.
This would make bridge-building a must when crossing big lakes and rivers, and slow down the run & gunners.

First things first. Water needs to look like water. Second, maybe all the problems with water could be solved my making it 3 blocks deep, and players sink and drown in deep water. You can still stand on a shore and shoot.

Why we just wouldn't stay in the simplest solution we got at the moment?

This is what makes the water dangerous place to move in, which means you just can't use it as an advantage, because you can't shoot there at all. It's a natural obstacle, which you need to overcome by simply building a freaking bridge.

This is where the new building feature comes up to be very handy: click the ground, jump into water, swim to shore, don't get shot, place the ending down and voila - you've got a bridge which you and your team sure will use and probably improve later on. Better than being a target in the river, at least.

Bridges finally have a real reason to be built, and so encourages people automatically help the team without possibly even realizing it after.

Because of the simplicity of the idea, I believe it wouldn't be a big headache to implement into the game anyway.
