Fog decrease as you get higher

Got a great new idea for the game?

Fog decrease as you get higher

Postby Gorman » Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:22 am

Similar to real life - if you are high up you can see further. It would be great if making towers actually gave a tactical advantage!

Right now, despite being able to shoot over some walls, they are mainly detrimental because enemy snipers will always check them - how easy is it to see an enemy hiding in a tower? VERY easy.

Definitely. But isn't this something that psyspades could implement? (this comment is based on what I've read on the forums, I don't actually have much experience with the program)

You must remember that towers already do give a tactical advantage.
- The higher up you are, the more terrain you are able to see, since you see over small obstacles. You can get headshots over walls that are just high enough for a crouching player. As an SMG gunner you can provide tracer fire to give your team information on the enemy's location.
- A tower with a sniper in it is a priority target, because of the previous point: that sniper has a better ability to kill your team. After attracting attention, the sniper can hide/escape while your enemies waste time and ammunition on the tower.

So yes, I think that fog should definitely decrease a little as you get higher, but not too much.

I don't think pyspades can implement this, it is a client side change for sure. Pyspades can change fog colour, but I'm not sure that it can change fog parameters (fog start and fog end) for individual players.

Indeed, I did point out those 2 points briefly in my first post ;)

A small amount is sufficient. For example even something as little as "fog is 1 further away for ever 5 blocks above sea level" then you can gain a decent advantage from a tower without anything ridiculous.

GOOD. i''ve been considering this for a while. as you ascend, the fog sometimes gets so thick that its not really worth it. this would fix that. only problem is that it would indirectly make rifle even more op.
I don't see why more people don't makes forts. even if not useful, they're a lot of fun

Elevation increases with fog?

Well, it doesn't matter. It looks like a great advantage. But then, what about maps where elevation is naturally high?
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

I curious as to how much it would affect performance. (not that it means anything to me, but some people here probably have slower computers)

but the you will have pepole geting shot when thay cant see there attacker to shoot back.
this is unfair as thay will have no chance or way to shoot back.(yes you can hide so as not to be seen now but it is still so that both players can shoot each other)

but haveing diffent map parts have diffent fog will be fun,i.e. the map floor can have a thicker green fog and lots of trees
an the tree tops can have less fog, both sides have to think do you risk the junge floor and the short range fights or take to the top and try to out fight thre snipers.
the normal fog will stay as the limt of gun range and max view.

diffent fog ranges and colours at diffent times will be great fun, in the day you have full fog but at night the fog closes in geting denser so players can sneak around, think how much fun it will be to kill a sniper that as been killing you for the last 5 mins.

It's the point of building high towers. It's obvious that players in an higher position are advantaged.
