I do like the idea of a set mine limit. Should mines be an option to replace, say, grenades, perhaps a player might spawn with two of them, but only be able to place a total of three (placing mine number four causes mine number one to disappear, if a mine hasn't been triggered already.) This would solve the issue of mine spam preventing people from achieving objectives, and would force team cooperation if you wanted to lay a large minefield.

As far as mine exposions go:

Here's the history channel's take on the bouncing betty. A bit crude, i know, but roughly on par with the real-life version-it literally 'bounces' before exploding. It's designed to kill infantry, which makes me think of it as the ideal model for a mine in AoS should it be implemented. And I know it was designed in WWII, but I assume we can safely ignore the anachronism.

They're highly lethal, and would lend an excellent aesthetic to the mine other than just a sudden explosion. As far as instant explosions go: I would argue against the instant death kill. Yes, it's your fault for not spotting the thing, but I can certainly imagine a scenario or two where it would be impossible to detect the mine before triggering it, which means there should probably be a way to take evasive action post-trigger, even if it's only a way to avoid death in favor of heavy wounds. As a parallel, against grenades, you have the option to sprint away or take cover behind a wall when you see the grenade. And even if the thrower is smart and cooks the grenade perfectly, you still hear the telltale PING of the pin being pulled. Perhaps a half-second delay before the mine goes off? Too short to sprint past and live, but long enough to duck behind a nearby wall if cover convenient.

Paratrooper: Apologies. I figured a month wasn't too long for a thread to lay dormant, and, well, it IS linked in the 'do not suggest' sticky. I decided to play safe and post in an already existent thread rather than start a new one.
