I have never faced a problem wherein the environment was too dark.

That is all.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

Hence the reason why the updated lighting engine would make it pitch-black. I've found how it's harder to shoot me while hiding in the dark off the side of the giant block in Assault. :/

To make muzzle flash, make a seperate .kv6 model of the gun WITH the muzzle flash,
or make a muzzle flash .kv6 that is positioned on the most far away centered voxel.
P.S. Muzzle flash must be transparent

Why not just make it simple and make particles come out? It could help modding :/.

Please re-vote. I added a new option to the poll and the forums deleted the votes.

this would be awesome, I just hope the night time gets to be actual darkness and not just dark fog, so using a light and stuff would actually be good. it would be really fun to have this, this game would work so well with it I think

I don't think Ben could update the engine -- Ken Silverman made it.

We could only hope that there would be an lighting engine in the OpenGL update.

About darkness: in real life the human eye adjusts to different light levels.
If were going to have a new lighting system, I would like to see something like this:
*Player walks into tunnel, it's pitch black*
*The player walks in the tunnel, things gradually become eaiser to see as his 'eyes' adjust.*
*Player exits the tunnel and is temporarily blinded by the sunlight*
Basicaly I would like to see it work like in real life, the longer you stay in a dark area, the easier it becomes to see.

Ben can probably do anything with the engine, the problem is whether or not it would be worth the effort writting the code.

Exactly what you said. Would it be worth it.

Depends. Does Ben even have the source code for Voxlap?

Probably. http://advsys.net/ken/voxlap/voxlap05.htm

How about now? :3.

It was released in 2005. Trolol.

Edit: Flashlights are possible, thanks to voxelstein showing that. Dynamic light from flashlights too. And from what I've seen he updated the engine just LAST year.

I totally agree with this, even if they arnt added in though i belive that Ben should redo the lighting engine to make it more realistic, at present i think it is ridiculous the ammount of light in the tunnels.

At any rate this is the first thread ive seen that i cannot see any big downsides to.

AoS wouldn't exist if he didn't have the source code...

That's what the great part about this is. There is no HUGE downside! No griefing, or anything besides a small decrease in FPS.
