Guys, since options 1 and 2 are the most popular, let's elaborate on them.

1) How much extra damage (both player and block) should the alt-fire do, if any?

2) What would the team limit on mines be?

I dislike the second idea, but I think the first idea should just be a normal grenade.

The damage from a land mine should be like a regular grenade. It will kill instantly.

To balance the spam of those mines. You should select the grenade and press the button ''R'' just like the reload of your weapon. Only arming the mine takes 15/30 second. So you cant spam the mines.

I voted for 1, but it might be better if you choose grenades, not just get both. It seems kind of less exciting having both in one, i don't know

Off course will they plant those baby's. Great for closing narrow passages/bunkers/security/intel. I will use them.make it 10 seconds. but there needs to be a delay in it atleast.

if i remember well, in HL2 you could alt-fire the grenades, instead of throwing them you just gently roll them foward, since the current grenade has no alt-fire, i dont see why not put this
 
the other suggestions, such as making it act like a C4 or a landmine just doesnt feel right, they are all different kinds of explosives, you cant use one of them like the another, unless those two gets added to the game and you get to pick your explosive the same say you pick your team and your weapon, and still, adding those two to the game would not be a good idea
 
as for impact grenades, we have grenade cooking for that

Well, it isn't that hard to imagine soldiers putting some type of glue on to the grenade to make it stick to use as a demolition aid (though it wouldn't be very effective) and the Germans did manage to make traps from their stick grenades in WW2 due to their unique fuse mechanism.

you are making everything overly-complicated, the most far you can go without ruining the game would be able to choose your explosive, but again, the best case scenario would be the alt-fire for our grenade to just be rolled into the ground like i said earlier
 
i saw a post earlier about a limit on team landmines or something, i think they should only stay active while you are alive, with maybe a limit of 2 or 3 per player. lets say 2 per player, so at any time there is never more than 64 active landmines in the game, still split between two teams, is not much depending on the map, 64 or 96 landmines maximum in a gen map is really not much, but can be a big problem in that bridge or hallway map

Interesting discussion.
I voted for rolling/underarm throw, but idea of placing and mines are good too. And we have shift for two alt-fires for blocks (picking colour and click'n'drag), so nade could have all three alts.

BUT GRENADE SHOURL REMAIN GRENADE!

What I mean? It should not gain any special power when alt-fire, which mean the same explosion power and timer.
1. placing could have ability to stick to surfaces, so you can attach it to walls or celling like block (sticky bombs) - that's enough advantage IMO, no need for additional damage.
2. mines could be made as nade-in-jar: put nade in jar so it blocks leaver, remove pin and wait for someone to break the jar (by removing blocks that it lies on, by stepping on it, shooting at it or damaging it with nade blast) - at this point mine became just normal nade.
Enemy can see it and he have time after breaking the jar. He can also pick it up and throw away if they notice, so it's not OP at all. Mines should remain like 30s after planting player dies, 3 mines per player.

After some thinking about Tigershield's comment, I changed my vote to the land-mine/grenade trap idea.
It would take about 10 seconds to plant, as he suggested, to prevent spam.

If you guys think it's unrealistic, the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War made traps from grenades like these:

This: Alt-fire allows you to plant the grenade on a block, with the standard timer, as a demolition aid.
Better then making TNT or Sticy bombs.
