Peeking/Leaning

Got a great new idea for the game?

Peeking/Leaning

Postby Benton » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:54 pm

Hey guys,

I just was thinking, it would be nice to be able to lean out behind cover only exposing a little part of your head. That way you don't have to expose your whole body just to see where the sniper is, in a game where snipers take up about %80 of all the players.

That's what I think wheels, it could be useful if you learn how to not expose yourself while in cover

Keys Q and E (A and E for french AZERTY) could be used for that

well what the controls could be instead is only lean when looking down the iron sights and use A and D and when you want to peer over a block when your crouching use W. thats how its done in in airborne

I don't think you should be able to fire while leaning or be less accurate and have more recoil.

Yes, making recoil awful with no aim zoom would be nice

It actually is. Most bullets in modern warfare are used keeping an enemy in cover, pinned, so that they don't notice you flanking them and shooting them or so they don't shoot back at you.

I would like this a lot, if you shoot less accurately and have higher recoil when leaning. Also you should not be able to reload when leaning. If sights are enabled when leaning, then halve the accuracy buff. You should only be able to lean when crouched (or have almost no accuracy if leaning when standing).

I think this might encourage more cover building. However, it could encourage more lone wolf gameplay. Another thing to be wary of is the possibly confusing and disorienting transition from behind cover to leaning position in first person. The only game I can think of which did something similar to this was Deus Ex Human Revolution, which went to third person when a player went behind cover.

E is already used for Pallette picking, so maybe move Color Picker to F or something, or make the leaning Q and R?

Yeah, I've heard somewhere that for every 250 bullets shot in Afganistan, only 1 hit, the others were supressive fire.

I didn't think about suppressive fire, but the fact that without a proper shooting position (and leaning isn't one), recoil would be awful. The ability of making decent shots when leaning would make it overpowered, that's why I proposed to make accuracy awful.

But you're right, this would improve gameplay

Really? I thought it was something on the order of 1 in 2000.

My suggestion was to make recoil terrible and accuracy bad to begin with. Leaning would be more for a safe-ish way to see what is going on than a quick way to get kills. Maybe there would be a reaction shot here or there or maybe a few shots to get an enemy in cover but hopefully that would be it.

However, encouraged lone wolf gameplay would be something to watch out for.

Yeah, it was something like that. I can'r remember if it was 1 every 250 or 1 every 2500 shots that are a hit.
