My dear sir, you CAN switch the skins. I suggest you look one up, but bear in mind that if it's larger than the original skin, it classifies as cheating.

Actually they are, but there's a difference between having one of those ultra-long "lasersights" and having two voxels larger skin. Those two voxels don't offer much advantage, but the lasersight is just plain cheating
