increase screen resolution?

I love the game but one big issue is the limited display resolution. I don't understand, why can't it go higher? my monitor has a native display of 2560x1440, the game only goes up to 1280x960 no matter what i set the config file to. I can't play it in full screen mode either, everything is badly stretched out and for some reason the bottom 1/4 or so image is cut off!

will there be any updates as to increase display resolution size?

it's really hard on me to play it in windowed, instead of my wonderful 27" of screen I'm playing on only 11 inches! I have trouble seeing distant targets, I'm practically playing with the monitor inches from my face instead of the usual 4 feet, I'm sure this can't be good for my eyes...
Everything is just so tiny!

I agree, there are serious problems with resolution. The distortion is especially horrendous.

I have heard that keeping the same aspect ratio helps it, but in my experience there is nothing that can really improve it.

There should definitely be support for different resolutions added.
