New magazine reload system.

Got a great new idea for the game?

New magazine reload system.

Postby ChaosTLW » Mon Jul 23, 2012 5:23 am

So, as(I guess) all of you know, when you reload, the cartridges in your magazine are simply added to the ammo count, so if you shoot 3 bullets and there are 6 cartridges left on your ammo reserve, you will have full 10 cartridges on your magazine, with 3 remaining cartridges. My suggestion is that we implement a real magazine system, so you will spawn with, lets say, 1 magazine in your SMG and 4 others in the ammo reserve, if you shoot 8 bullets with the SMG, when you reload that magazine with 22 remaining cartrides is going to be a separate magazine.
It is kinda hard to explain, but imagine this:
There is, instead of a ammo count showing all your remaining cartridges, 1 bigger number, representing the next magazine if you reload, and 3 smaller numbers, representing the other magazines. By pressing F, below R, it will cycle to the next magazine, so you will reload the biggest magazine avaliable. Like this:

--22
--30
--14
---<------Those are magazines avaliable
30---<------This is the magazine you will use if you press R

This would make people think about their ammo reserve and plan better which magazine to use, as you may want a magazine with a smaller ammo count if there is only one enemy left, but a full mag if there are more around. Also, would add a small touch of realism, that is not present in any game that I know of.

PS: Oh, and it would only be used with the Semi Rifle and the SMG, as the Shotgun reloads individual shells.

/no support

There is no point making a non realistic game more realistic.
Plus in FPS games it's adviced that you reload after killing a few enamies. Plus realoading is done to avoid situations when you have only 2 bullets in your magazine and you are stuck with a SMGer who is ready to fill your head with bullets.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

It'd make ammo management a lot more important for everyone - especially SMG users - and require them to think constantly about when they absolutely have to short reload and when doing so might bite them later on.

Code: Select all
Blue SMG and Green Semi get into a firefight.
B. SMG blasts an entire magazine into G. Semi's cover and goes to reload
B. SMG not realizing he short reloaded earlier has just loaded his last 12 bullets into his gun. They miss their target. He can now either retreat or die and respawn with a painful lesson learned.

As I recall though, only Halo: Combat Evolved and Red Orchestra did the magazine system instead of a magic bullet pool and both those games were an absolute blast to play.

No! No! No! No! NO!

Code: Select all
A noob blue has 3 bullets in his mag after using 2 bullets in a fire fight. He sucks at headshots, so he has to reload, but if he reloads he is going to waste 3 bullets. So he decides not to reload. He stumbles upon a decent green SMGer
who is running from cover to cover. He has two choices if he wants to shoot him down. Reload but that way he will waste 3 bullets or he can risk and try to kill that green with those 3 bullets. He decides to shoot the green. 1st shoot hits the green in the body, 2nd one misses him and the 3rd is a blank bullet. He says in his mind while the SMGer is teabaging him:"What kind of a dumbass would add this into this game."

Why can't people realize that Ace of Spades isn't meant to be a MILSIM game? If you're so worried about realism go play Battlefield 3 or airsoft.

BF3
Realistic

Pick one.

It has nothing to do with being a military sim, magazine pools are far more fun than magic bullet pools.

What do you mean with "wasting 3 bullets"? I'm not suggesting that reloading discards the magazine, but that the amount of ammo in the magazine is going to be saved later, so things like "having 6 cartridges left, shot 3 bullets, reload, got full magazine and 3 on reserve" happen. If that guy shoots 3 bullets, when he reloads he gets the 6-shot-remaining magazine on his Rifle, and the 7-shot is saved for later.

The MILSIM was an expression not meant to be taken seriously. But I see a lot of ideas floating around these days involving a lot more realism than Ace of Spades has to offer. I can see this idea being used, but with the semi essentially becoming a sniper rifle I don't think it's that practical. Some people will need all five shots in the magazine. Of course they could reload with a new magazine, but what happens when all the magazines only have 2 shots left?

Well, people would have to plan and think about their ammo, so they try to avoid having only two shots left. An example I gave for this would be to use a smaller-count magazine if he knows there is only one enemy left, so he does not need to endanger itself with that anymore, and save higher-count magazines for bigger groups.

I could see it as a practical idea, but I wouldn't like it that much. :/

That won't really change anything...
Overall, you won't lose any ammo, but it'll be more annoying to pick your ammo.

I don't support this idea. It would lessen the fun in this game.

This is definitely a cool idea, but I'm stupid. I would screw myself over with this a lot.

It is an interesting concept, but not for a lighthearted arcade shooter like Ace of Spades, in my opinion.
