Resource Gathering

Got a great new idea for the game?

Resource Gathering

On the AoS main page you are greeted by the title, trailer, twitter feed, and then some text at the bottom with information regarding the game. One thing stands out in this area.
It’s the best bits of Minecraft crossed with the fast-paced shooter gameplay of Team Fortress.

The game has the best bits of TF2, but what about Minecraft. All we have regarding it right now is the blocky look of the landscape. This is not Minecraft's best bit. The best bit of Minecraft is mining and collecting resources.

This could be implemented in AoS by adding a resource gathering feature. Four ores would be added:
    Iron
    Copper
    Tin
    Silver
They would be found underground or on hillsides. Once found the ores are taken back to the tent where they are pooled for the whole team to use. They would then slowly deplete as people walked into the tent to get more bullets, health, or to build a turret. Each ore has its own use, iron would be used to make turrets, copper and tin to supply health, and silver to make bullets. Building a helicopter would need each resource combined.

This would force each team to strategical, players would need to make smart choices on where to use there ores and how much to use. For example, if the enemy is pushing to the left side and not the right, players would place a turret on the left to stop enemy lines from moving forward. If they had placed it on the right it would be a waste, for once you use ores, you cannot get them back.

There will also the ability to deplete enemy ores. Each intel cap would partially steal the other teams ores and put them into your stock pile. If you step into the enemy tent you would get a small amount of ores, but not as much as grabbing the intel. If you step int your own tent it shows how many ores you have.

Feel free to give your opinion on this idea. Pics are below to show what it could look like.

Would be nice, I think.

For the "crafting", wouldn't a crafting menu be needed? If yes, how should it look like?

I'm going to be completely honest. I do not like this idea. Ace Of Spades is NOT Minecraft and I really don't want it to be. and by "best bits of minecraft" I think he was referring to blocks and the building feature.

I agree with Hotk there. I don't think mining is the best part of Minecraft. Sincerely, when I'm playing Minecraft I see myself more building shit with wood and stone, or just walking around a forest, just for the sake of it, than mining. Hell, I can't remember one single world where I got more than 15 diamonds.

I think that the "best bits" that Ben was refering to was building, destruction and blocks.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)

This makes the game too complex, also there's no way to "texture" a voxel with ores, they are single color only points in space.
Strategical Master with Arms Proficiency.

I don't know about you, but I've never seen soldiers, mid-combat, trying to gather ore on the battlefield.
And this game does have bits of Minecraft (hint: digging and blocks)

I always liked such a gamemode.

Anybody that played ;Company of Heroes, might remember the resource points.

Fuel
manpower
ammo.

You needed to capture those sectors and connect those sectors whit the main Control points.

manpower is the main resource of the game. It is constantly gained at the start of the battle up to its end. It is needed to field everything - from infantry, weapon teams to tanks and universal upgrades. The more sectors in your control, the faster it regains.

Munitions are used for buying several upgrades for your units and using special unit abilities and support powers that use munitions, such as Throw Grenade. At the start of a match, there will be no gain in munitions, but as munition sectors are captured, the regeneration will slowly increase. This regeneration rate will depend on how many munitions sectors are at your control. The more munition sectors captured, the faster it regenerates.

Fuel is used for deploying heavy vehicles, building structures, and purchasing global upgrades. Your Fuel amount will constantly increase according to the total number of Fuel Points you control. Losing a Fuel Point will affect the rate at which your Fuel total accumulates.
