Larger maps to accomodate 64 players

Got a great new idea for the game?

Larger maps to accomodate 64 players

Postby bobbotheclown » Mon Jul 02, 2012 12:25 pm

Pretty much 1024x1024x256 maps.
Old small maps could be loaded by adding an option to load large medium and small maps.
medium maps current size.
small maps 256x256x64 or 128x128x64

The reason this is being suggested is that most of the maps made currently will get demolished, and it will be completely chaotic running some of the maps that are made currently. so, increase the size of maps to accomodate them.

You do realise that the bigger the amount of players, the bigger the map has to be. And the bigger the map, the more walking is needed to get up to the frontline. This will take even longer, a task already seen tedious by players (or at least me, when I used to play it). The longer it takes the more boring the game becomes and the more difficult it is to reach the intel, grab it, and return safely.

Well, Normandy, Market Garden, Trenches, those kinds of map is absolutely perfect for 64 players. Not too bad for Assault, but it would be hell for Pinpoint.
Maybe larger maps? Larger here means more land for players, while still kept the standard size of the map: 512x512.

If the 32 vs 32 is implemented then it would be nice to have the option to have variable map sizes with maps much larger than current being allowed. As for the issue of slowing the game down and making it more tedious, did any one play on Gen maps before auto climb? The game might work slightly better if it was slowed down slightly as it might encourage more building and a more methodical approach instead of blindly rushing forward like what seems to happen today.

Technically, that new map is 4 times bigger than the current one.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

well still you get the idea. the engine can support maps much bigger than what they are currently.''

the idea is basically to make maps bigger based on player limits or something.

If/When 33 vs 32 is implemented, block damage really needs to go down for guns, can you imagine what 16+ players with smgs can do to the landscape?

I would love this so much, but if you could literally change the size of the maps to anything you want (With a limit...) then I would currently be spending ages on Paint.NET making a giant Normandy campaign using the bitmap converter.

Well another idea was to make Giant cities.
I mean, gigantic cities.
Tall and huge.

you could probably use google earth to make maps based on tremendous sections of city.

if voxlaps maximum map sizes were used there would be a lot more potential for map makers, provided servers could still load smaller maps.

But other than that, i want taller map size. Bigger urban landscapes, more taller skyscrapers, what not. Bigger cuold be useful, but heck, x4 times is too much. x2 is enough.

I think the teams should just be separated more instead of expanding in all directions. Otherwise the frontlines would get way too far stretched out and no one would even notice any change in the gameplay.

At the moment I think maps like Gen or Normandy could probably handle 64 players if block damage was toned down.
