Serverside weapon restriction option

Got a great new idea for the game?

Serverside weapon restriction option

Postby W5WOLF » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:23 am

Greetings AoS Community

Me and my Friend discovered this Game some days ago and enyojed the Mix of MC and TF. We are pretty familar with Shooters and took not long to score some points. It also not took very long for us both to come to the conclusion wich Weapon is suited for us: the rifle.

After one or two Hours we were able to score pretty good with this weapon. Usiung some intelligent cover and movement play 10:1 K/Ds became routine. Dont get us wrong, we played on random public server and are fully aware that there are some AoS Players arround who would prove to be a challenge for sure.
Neverless for us the Rifle was the best allround solution for all Distances. Even in close range we dropped enemys pretty effective because hip shots find the head on this distance good.
We got confrontated with many nice designed concealments and bunkers but fur us as rifle player we just needed a popping out portion of the Defender(s Head) to send the one way ticket.
SMGs can be dangerous, forcing to cover and disrupt aiming but once you got some cover and a location fix on him (helpful map) you drop him even if he pinpointed your cover. In our Opinion the rifle ist also better suited to stop advancing Squad/Groups due to enough ROF to handle them.

In short terms we enjoyed AoS and the rifle gunplay for sure but in comparsion to other fps there are not many other games wich allowed us to score Headshots and Kills easier. Roaming this Forum we was wondering that some players described a decreased and problematic acc of the rife since 0.75. For us the most Shots was Scorers. There are some mysterious wtf occasions or challenges like hopping/climping players or long range transversal moving targets. These they may require a second or lets say a third center-mass shot but neverless even barely visible long range Targets receive a Headshot mostly on first oppurtunity. If you ask us the manstopping power of the rifle is reliable like a "<insert which nation may suit you> employee". Maybe its because of the blocky Nature wich allows to zero-in easier maybe we just had a really lucky day and met the not so seasoned players. But what we can say for sure: the biggest Threat for us was... another Rifle player.

What we really enjoyed with Fun not many FPS provide was get hammered by SMGs :-). We participated at some Firegfight on/in tight cover-rich Bridges, Tunnels, Passages and it was just Epic. The "supression effect" and tracers of the smg in this game is nicely done and the whole mc building and digg-in gamepart shows ith strenghts can be a really effective help factor.
True your markmanship and skill may be lesser proven with this automatic, not so accurate weapon but it made a hell of "warlike" fun and created intense long firefights. Occasions wich aiming-well rifle players would mostly not allow.

We abolutely have not the intention to call for a nerf for the rifle. Not just because there are many players where would disagree with this request. No just because its a fun nice classic with practice requiring gunplay.

What we want suggest is a serverside Option for Weapon Restriction. In other Therms give us the Option for Weapon restricted "Fun" Servers. Like mentioned it should not be the consequence to seperate a part of the community from a weapon as standard issue so the Term "Fun Server" may hit the nail right.

Because of our shortage of completed game hours in aos our Perspective may be narrowed and we are very interested to hear whats the community may think about this and invite you all into a discussion.

Farewell
Wolf

Some servers "could" become most interesting with serverside weapon restrictions *zombies + SMG restriction, cough* but I'm not sure where a rifle would be removed from server use besides city levels and even then the rifle is still used universally.

1) Serverside restrictions for weapons have been discussed many times, and even now it should be doable (albeit hackishly). In the future they will hopefully give us better server-side controls.

2) If you never played .7 you will never understand how infuriating the .75 rifle is - especially if you have low latency. For anyone with, say, over 200 ping, it is literally 50/50 as to whether clicking directly on the centre of a player's head will be a hit. At 128 range (this was the previous engage range of the rifle) it is now perhaps 1:4 chance of landing a hit. Players who use rifle now engage at around 80 range, and so don't even know how badly the random chance affects the game.

3) Welcome to the game and the community, I think your assessments of the game are quite accurate.

True we also came to the conclusion that the rifle is the most popular weapon. The can SMG handle very well better "very fun" on long distance but not in presence of rifles.

As Example we played maps forcing us to advance on less cover providing open ground and got often focused by long range smg players forcing us into cover and just allowing us to carry some smg hip shots or inaccurate smg short burts into his direction. With coordination and hope for luck we tried to suppress him somehow to allow for movement. And what we can say it worked quite often ! That was a big suprise for us and to be honest we never expected it from a game "like this". How many Shooters even Simulations try to recreate this and fail mostly. These SMG firefights showed us another! great potential of this game.

No clue what Impact this would have on Cheat/Hack Security. We noticed that there is much chat traffic about this Topic.

Yes we just started right with 0.75 and cannot compare rifle performance. We noticed that there area different VR on the servers and enage successful once we got a barely visual fix. Maybe we just not visited the long VR Servers.

Edit:Were are our manners ty for the welcome !
