Metroid, ya know, where you fight the jellyfish

Postby Fluttershy » Mon May 28, 2012 12:42 am

Its a damn shame, its a damn shame there hasnt be a metroid and monster hunter thread yet....But ill do the other one later..

Please note this is a thread for ALL of the games in the series, from the one with the black guy to the pinball game, all are welcomed here. For those who have been fufilling their destiny to be in a box all their life, Metroid is a game that well defines the genre of(and pretty much started) metroidvania. The genre itself describes nonlinear gameplay where you just screw around to get shit to find better shit. (or in the case of Other M, run around like a moron in a lava filled room until the big man says you can turn on your antiheat suit). For example, an area might not be accessible until you get double jump. Games like (obviously) metroid, castlevania, and cavestory all fall into the genre (and of course theres more, im just going with the two ive played and the other obvious example)

Games
Metroid (NES)
Metroid II, return of samus (GB)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Metroid fusion (GBA)
Metroid Prime (GC)
Metroid Zero Mission (GBA)
Metroid Prime 2 Echoes (GC)
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption (WII)
Metroid prime trilogy (pretty much a one disk game with all three of the primes with reworked glorious wiimote controls) (WII)
Other M(WII)
...Then theres also Pinball and Hunters, the oddballs of the group. (Both NDS)

If you havent ever played a metroid game, Super and Prime are both very good places to start.

Super metroid, Name me one time master chief took on a giant lava crocodile. Yeah, I thought so.If he actually did, I aplogize. Still would get his ass kicked by samus.

Image
Metroid Fusion, Yeah, nightmare's one of my favorite bosses ever.

the metroid games are pretty fun, I got pretty far into Zero Mission, but couldn't get past some part, and then I found out that my cartridge died or somebody deleted the save(it might've been me, I don't remember) I also played Super Metroid and Prime Hunters, but I don't remember getting too far into those.

that boss is pretty cool though, I remember when you set it as your avatar I looked for what it was, pretty funny stuff.

I own the Trilogy. Best buy ever. I also own the original Super Metroid cart and original SNES.

Damn shame that Other M came out the way it did in my opinion.

@Fluttershy, don't forget to add in that Super Metroid was the general beginning of speed-running and squence-breaking in video games.

I own the Trilogy, and I'm thinking of getting Other M. Is it worth it?

I haven't played it, so I'm not sure... I wouldn't pay full price for it though if I did get it. The thought of having to sit through Samus' B.S. PTSD moments isn't too appealing... Especially after all the enemies she destroyed up to that point.

You can easily pick up other M for 15 dollars or below, so it isnt too much of a loss if you dont like it. Of course, theres always the alternative of simply renting it. The gameplay wasnt too bad, its the story people have a problem with (and for good reason). Its kinda the MGS2 of the series.

Yeah the story was a wtf for me, since I'm not used to that many cutscenes in a game.

Also, I fucking hate that robotic piece of shit that shoots laser shit, it was hard as shit for me to beat him in Metriod Fusion, but atleast it I didnt die 10 times when I faced him in Other M....I gotta start playing Metriod again

Edit: Also, mfw nightmare comes back for a second round in Other M

I love the Metroid Prime Trilogy, they were really good games. They had a really unique FPS control scheme that fits perfectly into the Gamecube and Wii. And Samus is one of my favourite characters in gaming. In fact, just below Master Chief (quite an achievement).
