AoS registration system

For all things AoS!

My major issue with this idea is that many aos players are younger kids and casuals. Required forum-based registration would discriminate against these and others who don't (or can't) use the forums. By definition, they also have no representation in this discussion and can't argue their side. It would be unfair to neglect this essential part of our community. They have just as much right to enjoy the game as we do.
I really do like the idea itself though, and would love to see it used in a more conservative way. Optional registration would allow stat tracking and nickname protection, but not necessarily help track bans. But it's a definite option

Please no registration system, it will do nothing. Put the effort into something better please.

I know what Alpha and Beta are. That post explains absolutely nothing. I know the game isn't officially out and that it is in testing right now. WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!?!?! And yes, you can change your IP. But I will bet 80% of hackers are 12 year olds that don't care to know how.

No I don't want registration its irritating and stupid. If he is going to make the game a pay game why is then a registration needed. For REG. a big fat NO.

If he is going to make this a payed game HE NEEDS REGISTRATION!

If he is going to make this a payed game he needs to get rid of impersonation entirely.

Registration fixes that.

Just because registering gives you a forum account, doesn't mean you have to use the forums. It would only alienate people who don't have an email address, or who are just too lazy to register.

Furthermore, nobody has the "right" to enjoy this game - ever heard the phrase "privilege, not a right"? If you had the right, then Ben would be punished for violating your right to play the game if he somehow stopped everyone from playing. Instead, it's a privilege - you get to play the game because you have internet access and the game is made available for free by its creator. Excluding those who can't be bothered to take a few minutes to receive a confirmation email sounds perfectly fair to me, considering all the abuse that goes on by members of this "essential" part of our community.

Really though, I don't care how it goes down. It seems reasonable to be able to change your displayed IGN, while not being able to change your account name (which should be visible to admins only). Also I like using the pyspades stats page so having that implemented for any server would be awesome :D

Maybe a server where people who skip that step can play on. Only that one until they will decide to register.

Simple solution for those who don't want to register: they show up in the game as DeuceX (X being a number) and they won't have access to some of the advanced registration features (rankings, etc).

Certainly a good idea, I would love to know my statistics. The registration should be made easy for everyone tho - if you try to join a server without registering, it could pop up a quick-to-use registration screen so you can get to playing.

One question, Will the people who got In the GLB will be lifted and will be given another chance? If they use a cheat again that'll be their last of course.

Anyway, I would love this to be added. It seems to be a very good add.

Agreed. Make it like a lite app on the iPhone app store. You don't need to upgrade to pro, but if you do you get more features and such. Great Idea

Yes, it is a privilege. But up until this point everyone's had EQUAL access, hence "just as much right". Forcing registration would be severing a large portion of our younger audience, who aren't capable of making an email. It's unfair that we deem ourselves worthy of making decisions on their behalf. Perhaps we could have straight public servers, and then servers only available to those registered?

On the flip side of this, maybe getting rid of a lot of the younger ones would be a good thing considering the state of our current playerbase. It would get rid of a lot of those kiddies that go around yelling "HACKER AIMBOT".
