Would forum and ingame account sync be a good thing?

I don't see why it wouldn't. It would:
A) Prevent people from impersonating other users in-game.
B) Make catching and banning cheaters easier.
C) Could possibly allow an in-game ranking system that would appear on the forums as well (maybe badges could be displayed next to the usernames?)

Registration sounds like a good idea. Help keep griefs and cheats out. Hmm.......
Is that you Luigi?

Excellent news Dan, for some reason I am quite excited about this being introduced in the community, perhaps the sense of security, who knows.

I think registration is a great idea. Aimbotters have ruined this game.

I would make the installation as easy as it is now, in that you shouldn't force forum registration and all that on a new player. Not everyone wants to mess with the forums.

IIRC, I was brought here by a wired.com article last year, if I had to do more than just the basic install and jump into a live server, I may not have even bothered, but I sure am glad I did!

Have the player automatically registered (by IP) when he/she enters the game, with a deuce "x" name. After the player messes around a bit and sees how awesome the game is, they'll want to register in order to change their name. Registration would be the same for ign and the forums.

I think keeping score is a bad idea. For example, I play Tower of Babel a lot, and I get shot a lot trying to build a tower/stairwell. I may have a k/d ratio of 0.2, but building is critical to the game. Same applies to CTF; the ten points doesn't quite make up for grab attempts, plus you may make the intel halfway back and get shot, while someone else takes it the rest of the way.

Only in deathmatch-only games could a k/d system potentially work, but even then I think the focus of the gaming community would switch to deathmatch games only, neglecting CTF and others, all just to raise your score.

Otherwise, some basic stats could be recorded, intel grabs, intel captures, blocks placed, blocks destroyed, hours played, etc. Just not k/d, that's what Call of Duty is for.

The problem with using stats to show how "good" you are is..well, some people have really poor internet and may miss a lot of their shots or die a lot charging into enemy fire to create diversions for capping intel.

The only stat thats that matter are
TDM = kdr + kills per minute (have to be combined)
Objective modes = w/l ratio

You could have a super good accuracy, but take 2 mins waiting to shoot at a guy standing completely still, plus with the new accuracy system it would be largely luck based.
You could have high kd ratio but camp the entire match and contribute nothing to your team.

The LAST thing we need since the rest of this games CODification is 12 year olds waving around their e-peens because of "ZOMG I GOTS TEH 1337 SNIPING SKILLLZ DURR" when all people WANT is for other people to learn TEAMWORK and STEAL THE GOD DAMNED ****ING INTEL!!!!!

The whole prestige system is what helped ruin the COD fanbase, and I am sure many other FPS games follow suit when stats are introduced. It always becomes a pissing contest of who has the best stats and nobody plays the game to play the game! AoS was a simple game based around it unique gameplay and LACK of competitive atmosphere! Sure it COULD get competitive, but only IN-GAME and after each map you could be a complete stranger to everybody around for all the players knew.

If you WANT to play Call of Minecraft: Block Ops then go play "b rick_force!"

I don't see the point, Changing your in game name is very easy and you get the option to pick one when you first load the client. I notice most people don't use game forums much anyway. i would rather the effort being put into game content like SPINNING BRIEFCASE and MEDIPACKS etc.
Profile avatars are overrated.

How about this suggestion:
If we have registration systems, you could make two kinds of servers
1. Registered Only server - as the name states random guys can't enter, griefers(!), cheaters and other bad people can be banned easier -> neat, well cultured gameplay at last
2. Open server - ppl who just found out about the game and they want to try it out without going through the terrible effort of registering can come here to see what's the game is about

Keep seeing the same three supporting "reasons" parroted, so;

>Stats
Lolno, you're already complaining about the lack of teamwork and want stats implemented? Lrn2logic, stats only promote kill whoring.
>Impersonation
How many examples have you seen that present that as a serious problem? I think I've seen one guy [impersonating someone from USAB on GH1] the entire time I've been playing.

The only argument for registration is making it more difficult for banned aimbotters/griefers and by doing so you make it much more difficult on new players and the vast majority of the undesirables know how to create fake email addresses for a seemingly endless stream of accounts any ways.

Making it more irritating for new players and honest players that like to change IGNs from time to time to stop a handful of twelve year old griefers seems like an exercise in futility to me. Sure, griefers [and to a lesser extent since .75, aimbotters] are a problem but this isn't any form of solution.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Seems like no one today understands that.

What is to stop me using a name like BcooIface? Or MikuIi? Wow in this font those even look identical to the real names!
danhezee wrote:Ban evasion would be more difficult.

Yeah, because it is so hard to evade a ban on the forums! You just make another account, that takes like 10 seconds. I wouldn't say that is more difficult than getting a new IP, but it certainly will give admins a false sense of security!

I dislike both and think they are the biggest cancer currently afflicting games.
