The Mount and Blade series

Mount and Blade: Warband
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2GCwJdv ... ure=fvwrel

It's the sequel to Mount and Blade and is a RPG-RTS hybrid based during the Medieval times.

Mount and Blade: With Fire and Sword

This one's more during the 1600's (Pardon my weak history skills), during the advent of muskets.

Mount and Blade is awesome, I mainly play Mount and Blade: Warband PW Mod, for some reason when I play Singleplayer or just regular Multiplayer my game crashes more often. but it's still fun

I really got sucked into this game for a few months, a while back. Haven't played it in ages now though. People should definitely at least try it.

I just love Warband (the original is good too).
Anyway, enough of politics for the time being.

Sadly, no. Grand Strategy/ Large Scale RTS games were never my cup of tea.

RHODOKS, SHIELDS UP!
MOVE IN FORMATION, STAND CLOSER,
ADVANCE!
Today, we shall make these Saranid barbarians yield or meet their ancestors underground!
Khan, we shall throw you to wretched dogs in the streets, you filthy scum!

And so, thanks to The Legion of Stiivais, 160 men in size, the Saranid Sultanate fell to the control of Rhodok - empire of Shields and Crossbows...

Best wargame ever!

For a photorealistic, authentic experience i recommend the mod "1257ad"...

That awkward moment when you find out that the OP is a vassal of the Khergit Khanate. (Haven't played in a long bloody while though)

I loved warband, I spent probably 9 hours a day when I first got it for a whole week, great game.

Same here. Awesome game, especially warband. Totally addictive, mostly due to being so realistic in many ways.
I don't remember how I got un-addicted from it. All I know is that it took me years to get bored of it.
Favourite fractions - Rhodoks and Swadians. Yeah, I love crossbows. Eventually I got pro with all ranged weapons and could score a headshot from spawning point to a guy sitting on the enemy castle during the siege.
Any of you tried M&B With Fire and Sword? It's tough to understand for anyone who doesn't know Russian or know Russian/Polish history in the 1700-1800s, but since I do (a little), it was quite fun. It focuses more on firearms, the amount of soldiers you have, and politics rather than the variety of weapons, training of your soldiers that original M&Bs had. It's a bunch of mumbo jumbo for anyone not related to eastern europe/Russia though.
Warband is still the best M&B ever.

I'm playing With Fire and Sword at the moment, the only problem I have with it is that you can suddenly take a musket ball to the face right out of the blue. My troop composition there are mostly a ton of musketeers/marksmen (mercenaries for the most part) and some infantry with pikes and spears to stave off cavalry and infantry charges. I don't have much cavalry except for mopping up stragglers.

Also, volley shots are essential. Individual muskets firing at random times aren't as effective as a whole volley of them fired at the same time, especially at incoming infantry waves.

A bit OT, but does anyone know any good mods to make commanding troops easier?

Sadly, I don't use any mods for my M&B. I only used the official patches. XD
