EDIT: I realise this looks out of place, sorry. I'm talking about libraries which could be used if this were to go ahead - module music tends to be a lot smaller than .wav/.ogg/whatever. I am for this notion.
Well, libdumb is pretty lightweight IIRC, and it's the open source module player that doesn't suck. The closed source module player that usually sucks less is libbassmod.
The two open source module players that completely suck ass are libmikmod (as used in SDL_mixer) and libmodplug. Don't use any of these.
I don't know if there's an .xrns player, but I fear that someone will have to attach VSTs and crap like that, and some of those would be non-free, and by non-free I'm also talking about cost, so mat^2 would be limited... he might as well try converting to the (REAL, as opposed to that modplug-extended VST bastardisation) .it format.
