A site like reddit shouldn't just be swept aside though. There are hundreds and hundreds of subreddits, some of which can be pretty stupid (ie. r/circlejerk), but some are awesome. I spend most of my time in r/books and other subreddits where people are actually capable of having intelligible conversations.

Reddit. It's not all memes, it also has incredible AMAs (public interviews) with great people. One of the recent ones was Neil DeGrasse Tyson's 3rd AMA.
