AoS on Kickstarter for funding

Postby NEMS » Fri Feb 24, 2012 8:46 am

I think it would be a good idea to have AoS up on http://www.kickstarter.com/ to get some funding done towards the game & developers.

I'm positive AoS would definitely get a lot of backers behind it after they see how awesome it already is and how much better it will be in the future.

Ben should really consider this.

Does Ben even have plans to monetize? Previously he couldn't because of the Voxlap engine's license, but converting to the OpenGL they may have stopped using that engine all together (or maybe not).

In any case, donations will be very limited if there is no chance of AoS being self-supporting in the foreseeable future.

The answer to "how will AoS continue" is essentially: "Don't worry." There are enough public facts for a good detective to have a general idea about how AoS development is proceeding and is funded currently, although the details of the story are extremely complicated(I only know some of it myself, even).

Doing the detective work will also tell you that in the future there will be a monetization strategy. But none of those plans are final, and Ben(as with most things) has kept it all a secret. You are welcome to voice your opinions on how the game should fund itself, of course. Assume anything is possible :)

I think Fox answered the OP quite aptly there.....

Funding through Kickstarter wouldn't be a bad idea though, it certainly would help though.

Whatever strategic monetization plans Ben has are for future plans, I'm talking about right now.

Funding through Kickstarter would boost the whatever funds the game currently has and secure it up until the game is solid enough to monetize.

The question is not whether "What if people don't like AoS and don't fund it?" so why not go for it? Money is good for motivation and progress.

There is an alternative to Kickstarter.com which is www.indiegogo.com/

I'm honestly pretty damn surprised to haven't seen any donate button on the main page by this point. Plenty of people would be happy to contribute, but a plan that involves monetizing the game itself is much better.
