All the animes are awesome, it is very difficult for a manga to manage to be anime only because of it an anime has to be good, then the masterpieces for me are:
Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Soul Eater, Katekyo hitman reborn!, Bakuman, Fairy tail, D Gray-man, air gear, ao no exorcist ...

Robotech is superior to all anime suggested in this thread because of the following:
1. Guns
2. Space
3. Airplanes

Like all anime, it has its ups and downs but it is still my all time favorite anime.
Season One (maybe Two) is really the only one worth watching however; don't be pulled in by the fancy new seasons with its colorful graphics.
