CoD and the Community

CoD and the Community

Postby MrChucklez » Sun Feb 05, 2012 7:02 pm

I know a lot of people HATE CoD, and that is fine with me. But holy cow, just because someone puts in a suggestion for adding something slightly CoD like does not mean the entire topic has to fill up with hate. CoD and AoS are totally different games. I for one like CoD. But does this mean that I hate AoS. NO!!!!!!!! I do not want this game to turn into Call of Duty because there already is a Call of Duty, and this game brought a creative twist to the FPS genre. But that does not give me the right to go ballistic on anyone who mentions the "oh so terrible name". Please people. CoD is a totally separate game. All im saying is that the majorityy of people in the community should be a TAD bit more mature.

Allow me to explain the best I can, though I am only a new player so my feeling will be much lighter.

AoS is a game of, or at least should be, teamwork. The gameplay is slow and tactical, and the voxel engine enables a perfect mix of construction and destruction.

CoD is all about the single player, no teamwork is needed. Gameplay is fast, and mostly about fast response times. There is no destruction, only getting to the enemy as quickly as you can and shooting.

So the anger originates from the feeling that the gameplay and feeling of AoS that we have all learned to love is being ruined by people 'who just want to play CoD: Minecraft edition'.It's pretty similar to going to America and trying to advise communism as a brilliant idea that everyone should adopt.
As mentioned earlier, I am only a new player, but from what I have heard the game is being ruined by the slow movement to CoD style gameplay. Construction is hardly used for anything outside of building the biggest phallus, and autoclimb means people just wander up the the enemy, alone. Have you even seen anyone take part in teamwork.

Keep CoD features with CoD, and keep AoS features with AoS.

Squeal put it best, I think; they don't really want to play AoS, they want to play CoD with blocks. But on top of that, they usually aren't well liked players in the community. They don't use the forums (Except to make suggestions for "MORE GUNS!", they usually start the game off by flatlining a few servers, and when they finally start actually playing, they usually won't bother communicating or voting.

It's only natural that the community gets so angry... We've been putting up with it since the inception of the forums.

Just because everyone compares to it,doesnt mean it is a good game.
In my opinion,CoD (specially after CoD4) are a game for casual players, that just want to have fun or play with friends.

Dear ChaosTLW,

You're right about games after CoD4. CoD4, in it's prime, was probably the most competitive game next to CS I've seen. Now it's just a bunch of lame-o's who spam M16/Stopping power/dead silence because they think using TB's make them some kind of super hero.

//

On topic, CoD fans hate everybody, BF fans hate everybody, CS fans hate everybody, DoTA fans hate HoN/LoL fans, HoN/LoL fans hate DoTA fans, SF fans hate MVC3 fans, MVC3 fans think SF4 is boring (most of them)

It's just the way things are.

I wouldn't dare go so far as to say it's the "best" franchise in the genre (if you want my opinion, it's far from it), but it definitely is the most popular, which is what counts here.

Okay guys, my 5 cents on this case.

CoD series used to be good games.
When they were set in WW2, without the focus on MP.
I loved the first one for its atmosphere and the 2nd one for its unlinear approach to goals.
Those were best CoD games IMHO.
WaW was also good, seeing as the splendid graphics did the job of telling the story amazingly well.
Yes, it was more linear, but the missions were way more varied.
I enjoyed that.

Then, MW series and Black Ops tagged along.
MP focus = R.I.P. the CoD i liked...
Too fast, unrealistic, twitch based gameplay.
Atmosphere still present, but WAAAAY to many restrictions, btw
MW2's campaign 4 GODDAMN HOURS...

In my opinion, AoS should go through the BF route.
Teamwork, cooperation and true player interaction to achieve goals,
not blind roaming with double shotguns, throwing knives and flaming everyone.
I believe, that i don't need to even attempt to explain to you, why BF is awesome :P

But Squeal already said most of the important stuff...

Also: shutting up because i have caused some annoyances lately.

Dearest HollidaySpessa,

While I do like your perfect spelling and grammar, and I think that the community needs a lot more of that, i'm not exactly a huge fan of you writing every single response in the form of a letter. I'm not exactly trying to tell you what to do, but if you post like that on the forums a lot, people are going to start to hate you. And when people hate you, this happens:

"rambo__ was muted on #AoS for 129851978374 hours."

I don't think that you want that happening to you, so I suggest you tone down that little attitude of yours. Everyone saw you trying to tell a section moderator how to do his job, and it hasn't exactly gotten you off to a good start reputation wise.

Latin Shit,

While I am posting here, I should probably say something about the OP. I don't think that all Call of Duty fans are bad, just the 12 year old kids that come here expecting to be able to 360 noscope people. This game actually needs people to use tactics every once in a while, because it seems like people think every server is running the TDM gamemode.

"I disagree because this is from CoD" is just as bad as "CoD has this feature so we should add it".

People should stop posting 'Tribes/CS/BF/CoD has this feature and we should too" and people will stop hating them because "I disagree because this is from Tribes/CS/BF/CoD"...

Isn't that obvious? If a CoD player liked BF too then they would be a "FPS fan". Of course someone who only plays one game will dislike other games, that is why they only play the one game - be it because of ignorance or it just isn't their taste.
