I played the pre-release of .76 today and, as a person who ONLY uses the rifle, I was absolutely disgusted with what happened to it. So were many other people. Now, keep in mind, this isn't a thread about the rifle or to hate on anything, nor do I want this thread to spiral into that. I am working towards my point. Bear with me a moment.
As of now, Ace of Spades is divided into many groups. Hell, let's face it, currently the rifle is the most controversial thing about this game. People like me who want it back to the .70 version and those who like the huge, massive nerf. As well as those who wish the game was like it was originally, when it first came out. All these people fighting about what they think Ace of Spades should be. Now, let's be real, there is no way to really appease these people. If you do, you will piss off one of the other groups. There seems to be no winning.
That's when an idea came to my mind. One that would probably be a coding nightmare but, as I think you will agree, will solve all of these problems and, for the most part, put an end to this mindless bickering:
The final, released version of Ace of Spades could give you the option of running/joining a 1.0 server, a .70 server or a .01 server. Considering how small the game is, we are only talking about a few megabytes of data. It just opens up a different set of files. And if you think about it, if one doesn't like the way the game is headed, they can just join a server from a "different time". They don't have to bother the others and the others won't be bothered by them. As it is, I am sure there are some, like me, who are curious about how the game was originally and would like to play a .01 game, just for the fun of it.
I cannot think of any other way to effectively deal with all the problems that the community faces currently. Even putting all of that aside, at the absolute least, I don't see how it would be a BAD idea.
