A shotgun is a rifle with a wider barrel, it originally was designed as a rifle to fire multiple bullets, and named the rounds "shot", so it got the name shotgun.

So having it look like a rifle isn't a bad thing at all, mine does too. :P

Not only that, shotguns are usually classified shotguns if the barrel has no rifling. If it has a rifling, then it is classified as a Rifle or carbine, even if it shoots shots. A good example is the KS-23, that is classified a carbine even if it fires multiple projectiles, because it's barrel has a rifling.
