Furries aren't necessarily fatter/more virgin/more male than usual Zoophiles, but, rather, a large number of them believe they are "[X] animal born in a human's body" and as such, tend to dress in animal costumes. Really a disturbing fetish and/or mental disorder if you ask me.

Furries are, by definition, people who take an interest in anthropomorphic animals (typically mammals, but there are many who are interested in others). Being a furry does not mean you have to fursuit, like yiff, draw furry stuff, or anything like that (although most furries do do one of the aforementioned things). However, many have misconstrued it into "furries=fursuiters", when this is not the case. In reality, not a lot of furries do this, although there is a percentage (however small or large it may be) that does and gives the rest of the 'fandom', as it is so called, a bad image. Truth be told, a lot of furries are very weird and oftentimes defensive, but this is the result of the massive amount of hate surrounding the fandom (which is slightly, but not completely, justified due to their persistent posting of yiff on message boards). Another curious thing is that I've found a lot of furries to be openly homosexual, although I've never really understood the correlation (if there is one). Now I know I've said a lot of negative things about them, but the fact of the matter is that most of them are not zoophiles/fursuiters, but mostly artists or people who have an interest in the stuff. Unfortunately the common conception of them is the negative things I've stated before.\

I hope this cleared some things up for you, DeathEnhanced.

It is what you make of it. The only firm thing you can say is that it's an identity marker. The core "fandom" is escapist in nature, hence the focus on imagery, storytelling, RP, etc. as well as associated fanboy stereotypes. Subsets are also around (e.g. therians, "lifestylers") that associate more spiritual or abstract qualities to the identity. The general concept has been around since prehistoric times, "furry" is just the modern conception. So in most ways, it's an extremely diverse group.

Booyo pretty much hits the nail on the head.
But like Triplefox said, it is an extremely diverse fandom, it can mean completely different things to different people. For example, I don't like to consider the definition to be tied to strictly anthropomorphic animals, I think the whole anthro thing is just how the vast majority tends to express the feelings. One subset of the whole thing is simply feeling a spiritual attachment to animals as they exist naturally, which has nothing to do with anthropomorpism. It really is what you make of it.

I kinda just drew that, took a picture of it due to lack of scanner, shrank it, cropped it into that, but it is good to know it works.
