Use of building blocks in Ace of Spades

Postby flamegod » Sun Jun 03, 2012 2:02 am

I've been playing this game for a couple hours now and it seems that building blocks seems to have almost no real effect on the game. Sure, you can make staircases, tunnel, and make bridges, but they all only seem to be ways to get somewhere. After you build them you don't build them again. There is literally no defense wall or any kind of building other than a simple wall that barely provides an advantage for either side. I'm not quite sure what this game was intended to be but it seems to be mostly just a shooter that would have worked even without the building and destroying blocks part. So what exactly is the use of blocks? or rather what is it supposed to do?

Yeah, it used to be different. Blocks used to be used all the time, but a lot of the time, nowadays, people just don't feel. The need to build. Nothing beyond a small wall.

It depends on the server. Where were you playing? A lot of times blocks can have a huge impact on the game, it just takes someone with patience to use them right, and you can change the flow of a battle.

Like sledder said, it also depends on the server. Some servers, and maps, have blocks ready placed, and are more convenient than normal blocks. Some maps also don't really have a use for blocks. Others again have such a great use for blocks that they can "change the flow of battle"

Last time I played babel there was like 2-3 builders and the rest went off to grief the enemy structure with the smg. Has that changed?

Really I feel that blocks are too weak when compared to before. CaD definitly didnt make up for it.

Pinpoint does ecourage building a little bit. Since it's flat with no cover, this map ecourages players to make covers. I have seen many awesome buildings with this map.

I think it often depends on the map. Some maps already have plenty of cover so building is a waste of time. But others which have less encourage building and it can become pivotal.

I really don't knew what are the block for I never build cause like Ben says : AOS IS A RUN AND GUN GAME LIKE TF2 .
Also the weapons are to offensive and we got not even 1 really defence weapon like a Elephant gun , Deploy able HMG , Mortar.
The only way making structures use-able is that the now run and gun weapons ( I mean Semi ) gets a movement accuracy decease so people will have to stand ( mostly behind cover ) to shot. But Like I see aos gets just more and more a : "static environment run and gun , cod rip off "
AoS The worst game with the greatest potential .

In maps like Goon Haven's or classic Pinpoint, building is just essential.

If no one had built anything there, the match would have been much faster... and it would have been easier to kill each other. I always have to build a 2 block high wall to cover myself, and I also build stairs that lead to a wall in a higher place, so I can see people who try to hide behind walls like mine.

Yeah, if AoS isn't run and gun, then it won't attract a alot of players. Then, when the game gets paid, people won't play it and it will die... :(

Goon Haven 1 and Goon Haven 2's Assault map, as well as Pinpoint, require a lot of building as the maps are basically flat.

Or random shit at the back of the land. Sometimes people also just place blocks, that get in you way while sprinting, or just moving around. I remember I once had a streak along the lines of 70 or so, then I got sprayed by smg fire. I tried to move away, but there was a great big LOL made from blocks where I was standing, and it got in my way. I died. Sometimes having blocks gives people a reason to build all kinds of crap. Swastikas and stuff.
