and I modeled it after that one and so I named it after that one :)

Well, Battlefield says that the C in G36C stands for "Commando", so it is not really trust-able.
THe UMP.45 is the UMP using the a .45 caliber (more specifically, the .45 ACP cartridge), that's why it has the name UMP.45 or UMP45, not UMP-45, to indicate it is a caliber variant. Same with the UMP.9/UMP9 (shoots the 9x19 Parabellum, if I'm not mistaken) and the UMP.40/UMP40, that shoots the .40 S&W.
You can call it UMP45 too.

It is fomally accepted as UMP45/-45/.45 as this just describes the caliber used in that gun. Nope, that's an extremely common misconception. The C in G36C means Compact, but exactly because Colt had already trademarked Commando, many people think it means that too.
And, if I'm not mistaken, if the number follows a - it means it is the year or the model, while the dot means it is a caliber variant.
